Many thanks bigboywooly.
It's now installed and I look forward to seeing the results.

Also thanks to the moders because it seems that's a monster and amazing work !!

PS: If I had not read the GWX pdf, I never knew this pack...

Does GWX3 incorporate this without using SH3 Cmdr? If not, is there a GWX3-compatible version?

thanks

Thanks.

Does it work in GWX3 without any modifications?

It should do but I wouldn't like to say for certain because I've modded my own installation to the virtual hilt and I must be honest and say the skin pack has yet to be added (I recently purchased a new system).

All I can suggest is try it and see or create a second installation and try it out on that.

So some of the ships only uses changes in the .tga files, which shouldn't cause any problems. Some ships, especially capital ships, use .dat files to change the skin. If there is any incompatibility, I would think it would be here. As far as I can tell, .dat files control the 3d models and the placement of the various 3d components on the model, like guns, radar, etc. Is this correct? In the skin mod, are these used to model weapon changes over time? Would these have changed from the older version of GWX to GWX3? If they are incompatible between versions, is there an easy way to copy and paste the embedded .tga files in these using s3ditor?

thanks

EDIT: I now know I can move the embedded tga's from one .dat file to another without any problems. I have the GWX skin mod in a JSGME folder in SH3 commander, so I can enable and disable it at will.

What I'm thinking of doing (using the Bismarck as an example):
1. Copy over the NBB_Bismark.dat from SH3 into the GWX skin mod.
2. Open up this copy (with the incorrect skin) and the old version (with the correct skin), and transfer the embedded .tga from the old file to the new one.
3. Delete the old file, leaving me with an up-to-date NBB_Bismark.dat with the correct skin in the SH3 commander GWX skin mod.

Will this approach work?

I am the worst person to ask that of....I use a separate mod for both the Bismarck and Tirpitz skins but if I'm interpreting your question correctly, it should work.

The reason I use a separate mod is because I preferred the skins said mod contained.

Pretty sure he means the GWX skin pack, reading back it looks like it was on your (meaning Jim's) old Filefront page at one point but I don't see it at the new one.

I know I've downloaded it since I came here, and probably within the last year or less - this would be the single file download that Danlisa did, that's referenced at the end of the first post upthread - since I know I was fiddling with it around the same time I got the MFM and the skin packs for that. Beats me where I downloaded it from since it probably wasn't the old links at the top of this thread, maybe it was before FF borked up your old account there. I remember there was another more recent thread that mentioned it though because that's where I heard about it.

I can't find it in Maik's archive either.

If it's the one by ichneumon (not sure I've spelled that correctly) I'm not 100% certain it was ever released publicly.

I remember sending Jeff a link because at one stage I was the only Grey Wolf that had keept it...IIRC it's about 164MB compressed and over a GB unzipped.

I'll check my archives...I know I have it somewhere.

Give me an hour tops...off to pick the battlewagon up.

It may have been that someone mentioned it in passing and I asked about it because I'd never heard of it, and you or someone else uploaded a copy then so I could go get it. But yeah, the single download is a pretty big file even compressed.
