its making some decisions without me, I want to engage aircraft but it dives the boat without asking me like it used to. weird. used to ask

Whenever a plane, merchant, or warship comes into view... The game asks you if you want to dive to periscope depth, or maintain current orders and such.

You have a choice to select one and have it be the default choice from that point on. You may have selected one of these options inadvertently and now every time a plane appears you will dive.

ingame - hit ESC - settings - “reset standard action” (or similar - don't know the English version)
