RAPIDI ED INVISIBILI, PARTONO I SOMMERGIBILI
(Fast and Invisibles, run the submarines)
In Italy, the submarines have a "honour place" in the heart of every sailor, "rapidi ed invisibili, partono i sommergibili", fast and invisibles run the submarines say a famous song, that after the war became the "hymn of italian submarines", a national "myth", born in Italy possibly because the italian royal submarine fleet, was been the 3° major sub fleet before the war for number of ship (like 115 to 10 june 1940, and something like 50 others build during the war, without take subs build for other nations, like brasil, sweden, spain, etc), and because of all they, the majority never come back, giving to the memory the remember of men that rest in dark deep, that in spite of everything,(fortunes of war, and subs "moderns" but unsuitable for an "convoy war", being build for a "ambush war" against the "neighborhood", (like also russian do, having do many naval blueprints with italians) have do until the end their duty dying in hard and dangerous tasks. To they, to their sacrifice, we want devote this mod. (and possibly also to my grandpa, that his 18 birthday was 80 meters undersea bombed by 5 destroyers in the "Torricelli" engine room....red sea - june 1940).
Rapidi ed Invisibili, Fast and invisibles run the submarines like the song tell, then "stories of submarines".

The mod want beto 360° degree, from the atlantic base of bordeaux (betasom) to the mediterranean, to the red sea campaign (40-41), until far east missions (in monsun gruppe there was italian subs, and this will be our first move), even doing sure some missions in spanish civil war and maybe some "spy" misson in "ethiopian war of 35-36".
Our first step will be do an italian sub playable for operation monsun vanilla, then develop all the rest by this.
We search a 3d modeler for this, i'm trying to learn how use blender 3d, etc etc but we need ofc someone that know how do.
We have just a 3d model, but need some adjustment.
All the help will be welcome of course.
Then, ending, "Alfa Tau" commanders! (Alfa Tau=in italian navy messages, mean the sinking of a enemy ship, and was used also like a wish, for commanders before go in mission).

Thanks to Kapitain Oliver Leinkraunt for suggests, and for the help with informations, and thanks also to Cybermat47 for have accepted to help ourselfs.

Ofc watch the atlantic base of betasom (italian subs have operated with germans in atlantic, also doenitz have say good things about they), watch the submarines: Tazzoli and Da Vinci , that was the best sub of axis after the u boot for tonnage sink (100000-120000), or also others (some italian commander was also awarded by germans with iron cross, knight cross etc)
the problem was that italian sub was build for a war against france for example (ambush war out ports, like russian or british sometimes) not for a convoy war. Later with some adjustment (a new german style conn tower, and other) was a little better for they operating.
The usually zone was south atlantic, where they obtain many successes, not like u boot ofc (u boot have tactics and other optimized for convoy war) but the two best sub of axis for tonnage sunk, after the germans, was italians.
If you search on google this submarines (Tazzoli and Da Vinci) and their commanders, can see.
(Carlo Fecia di Cossato of Tazzoli, Gazzana of Da Vinci, and some other like i sad have also knight cross, iron cross, etc etc and just doenitz have greet italian submarines sometime, saying that the problem was the sub, not the men).
Also the commander of Atlantis, when have supply the submarine perla, was good impressed, and also when was sink, it's go on the tazzoli, and when arrived in france, have congratulated with fecia di cossato.
Watch the submarines of Betasom, in atlantic base, watch the missions of submarine Scirè (commanded by junio valerio borghese later commander of X flotilla mas of italian social republic, maybe the only italian troop that have complete autonomy by german HQ after the armistice of 43, that have transported the midgets sub in gibiltar and alexandria bases sinking the queen elizabeth and valiant battleships, where the same british admiral have awarded the durand de la penne (one of the men of midget sub, that the british have copied in their "chariots", churcill on that mission say: "today 6 italians with economical weapons have changed the balance of war in the mediterranean." or the submarine ascianghi that when the war was lost, continue to enter in enemy ports like bougie (algeria) sinking ships...and other missions like this. watch this. or if you know some u boot survivor, ask to him.).
In total italian subs sink 700 000 tonnage of ships. few in front of u boot. but i have just explained the technical problems of subs.
More tonnage of russian, that have much more problems of italians (restricted areas full of mines, few ships, technical problems, etc) having sink more than 300 000 tonnage in all war.
Also in spanish civil war have sink some ships (britain and urss call italian sub in spain: pirates, because they was neutral but help franco, like germans too).
The Enrico Toti have sink also a british sub, the triad in a mortal fight, in night. usually was british (have information by ultra) to sink axis sub outside the port. but the toti have met casually in night the triad, and after a duel have sink.
The german submariners begin was skeptical on italian submarines, but later (especially when we begin to train with german in gotenhafen) have appreciated much they. (also doenitz like i sad have do this, more than one time).
http://www.comandosupremo.com/leonar...submarine.html Watch this for example.
But this it's of italian font.
Then read also this: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=8823
A last thing: one of the last axis submarine to surrender was the italian sub torelli, that was fighting under japanese flag with italian japanese crew, and in august september of 45 have take down the last b 25 of war, and later was go to surrender.
Also the submarine of my grandpa (Torricelli, in east african colonies) have sink the destroyer : Karthoum. i think every british here can confirm this. (hit to a torpedo depot with deck guns, kartoum it's exploted later).
And the british commander have also congratulated with my grandpa commander after capturing it (without sub, autosink by the crew after being hit).

Default italian sub

The problem was that much modern class of italian sub, the 600 serie (sub classes: argonauta, adua, sirena, acciaio, perla, etc) was coastal-medium range sub, of medium size, not good for atlantic. and in mediterranean, was not like atlantic. was a trap. with few target, etc etc but also there, something was sink. not too. but some yes. (some british cruiser, and other).
The ocean going sub, the most succesful at least, was of 35-36 building, but other was much modern (like the marcello class of 38, and the brin class of 38-39, and also other of 40-41 like the ammiragli class).

Default Bases

Ok thanks for that, I can add new bases no problem, but they will be under the German flag for now. Type 7c now launched from La Spezia pending new bases.

The Adua is not seaworthy right now, this is proving tricky, I may have restart this one, I'll let you know. Right now I'm keeping development stock as not to confuse myself, additional ships can be added later. Getting the Adua playable is highest priority. Any help here would be welcome.

Regards, Sid.

The regia marina have for some period some 7c. (middle war. when the subs began to miss too).
And the platino class of the 600 series, was much similar to a type 7.
very much.

p.s. for italian subs, it's better use american fleet boat interiors.
(italian sub was much large inside than u boots. so, for the coastal medium size 600 sub we can use s boat interiors. and for the ocean going medium and large size we can use the others.).

I discovered this mod by chance because I've become obsessed with Beneith the Med, the solitaire sub game from the designer of The Hunters, The Hunted and Silent Victory. While I could always scratch those itches by playing SH 3,5 and 4 respectively, there's nothing that comes close to Beneath the Med. Who knew Italian submarines were so varied! And numerous! and carried out so many types of patrols!

Really really incredible stuff. I know you are probably waiting for the Dark Waters and FOTRSU teams to have time to pitch in, which I believe the Japanese mod may be too, but I just wanted to let you know you have an avid and passionate supporter in me.
