Default CTD when entering Scapa

Hello everyone

I am experiencing CTDs every time I try to enter Scapa. I have tried from both the western and eastern, southern approaches and I still always end up crashing right before I get to the last bottleneck before entering the bay/port. I am assuming there is a ship or land unit that is crashing my game but I am not sure where to start.

Sorry I dont have an answer for your problem but I thought
I would report I have a similar problem. It seems my problem starts
as soon as the battleship goes to alert. I can enter the harbour
but as soon as I fire a torp at the battleship I get a CTD. It usually
happens right as the battleship sees the aproaching torp. I hear the
alert sounds form the ship then CTD.

I've had the same problem - waiting outside (well just inside the harbour) Plymouth for Ark Royal in the Coastal waters mission in OHII. As soon as my torpedoes are in the water heading towards the ship CTD. There's no warning - just crashes. I think its a gfx card issue for me but not sure.

Good point ,

I checked and a new version of catalyist was released just
before christmas. I will update and try the mission again.

Updating My Graphics Driver Solved the problem for me,

Unfortunately drivers aren't causing my problem, at the time I wrote the thread I was using the 11.12s and since then I have updated to 12.1 and then to the 12.1a preview driver and the problem hasn't changed.

I have noticed that I can enter Scapa from the North west approach without crashing. However once in Scapa I found NO CAPITAL SHIPS! Plenty of DDs and a good handful of merchants but after a full night (game time) of scouring every inch of the harbour I did not find one single capitol ship

Frankly I am at a loss of words I have the real version of SH5 not some pirated copy, I am using a tried and proven mod setup (based of Travelly's setup), I have a pretty powerful rig with a relatively fresh win 7 x64 install and all drivers up to date and still I experience so many bugs, CTDs and other odd behavior. I must admit I find the game awesome as far as the gfx and fx are concerned but more often then not when playing it seems to be more like me vs the game rather than me vs the games AI and objectives if you understand what I mean

did you update your DirectX? Go to Microsoft's website and use the directX web updater. Do a forum search for Visual C++ problems. You might have an incompatible Visual C++ runtime installed.

This mod here looks like it is for use with Reapers Ui but you have TDWs installed:-

CTRL_Advanced Shift Keys 2.3 DBSM Merged for Ui-Boat ***this looks like it will cause ctds

Also - OHII - Campaign_OPEN HORIZONS II_full v1.6 Basemod

Are you using base or full?

GFX_KZS Hull wetness for U-Boats - is this the one to work with TDWs Ui?

GFX_Enhanced Ship Recon Manual V2.10 - not sure what mod this is but it should perhaps be before OHII

Try adjusting these suggestions and let us know how you get on.

Use the SH5 dvd , there is a install function for DX . Also a repair function for C++

I am using the latest DirectX Redist Package from june 2010, I haven't been able to find anything newer than this. As far as C++ I would assume that it is up to date and functioning correctly because from what I can see every time I update my ATI driver included in the driver package is a C++ update. However to be on the safe side I will try running the C++ repair utility on the SH5 dvd. Is it Support\VCRedist\VCRedist_x86.exe?

In the readme it says: "Command keys supporting the NewUI's, Ui-Boat and DBSM" but I will try disabling it.

Very good question, I cant remember if I shortened the name of to prevent getting those "file name too long errors" or if it just was the original version without the fix for TDW's Ui. I just downloaded the proper version and will give it a try.

I will try all of the suggestions given to me, one at a time so that way I can actually see which was causing the problem. Rather than just trying all at once, running the game and not crashing but also not knowing what actually fixed it. I will report back as soon as there is something to report. *edit* I forgot to mention that my fiance and I will be traveling to the US on the morning of the 8th. So between packing, traveling, unpacking and settling in, it will probably be a few days before I get a chance to do too much testing.
