Default Patch install help

Complete newb here needs to install patch 4_1.4. But, for some reason the install shield says it cannot find SH4 on my PC. Now it's there, but NOT in the default place (where ever that is). The install shield will not let me direct it to the proper location. I'm using Windows 8.1.

In the same vane, how does one tell what patch configuration ones game is currently? Thanks.

When using anything above Windows XP, best to install it outside the Program Files. See below, I created the folder Submarine and installed there when prompted ( I selected the browse option ) during the install process where to put the game.

Check out the process in this older thread, it is basically the same as I mention below:SH4 and Vista

Well I'm not sure what the deal is, as the install shield will not give me the browse option as it should. My game is out side the Program Files, as is all my Ubisoft games ("IL2 1946").

OK, got it now. I had to RE-install to create a path the patchs recognized. So your help worked just fine for me. Thank you ReallyDedPoet.

Yes, install the game and subsequent patches outside of the Program Files. Nice you got it going. I am using Win 8.1 with SH3, 4 and 5.

Yep, so far, I've not had a lot of problems with 8.1... still liked XP much better though.
