But will upgrade soon, maybe before Ubi will release SHV.

Like Racerboy, I hope to upgrade to nVidia 300 next June/July, after 2-3 months of getting familiar with SH5.

I prefer ATI cards picture, but fact that Oleg is applying nVidia "friendly codes" in upcoming Battle of Britain SoW... gave me no choice.

* * *
There's just small problem, that Oleg is "lost in a time and space" with his project and nobody knows possible date (year) of release... so I might end up with some ATI 5870, afterall...

ATI 4870x2. 2 gig in all. Alright card. SH4 plays with silly high frames.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB. Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.5GB, 4GB RAM. SH4 and Rainbow Six Vegas runs fine on this. Just hope SH5 can run on this.

Ati RADEON X-1950 XTX 512Mb

A bit old, but was pretty much top shelf when I bought it. Am thinking of going for dual cards when I replace it.

As for CPU, a dual-core Athlon 64 FX-62 @ 2.8GHz w 2GB RAM.

I got all of this back in 2006, so some components are a little old now.

Suppose I might think of building a new one some time, or just replacing video card in the interim.

FYI, anyone wanting to look into graphics cards and other hardware, this is a very handy site:

BUMP

And a note on SLI rigs: having 2 cards with 512MB memory still "only" gives you 512MB, not 1024, because memory from 1 card is cloned. Not sure, but I think it applies to 2xGPU cards as well (GTX295, etc).

Should i look for a graphics card with the highest GPU as well as the highest memory . A gigabyte HD5870 has an 850mhz core clock and 1gb of memory for $589 and a palit gtx295 has 576mhz core clock and 1792mb of memory . Which one is best for gaming ?

Bit OT, but: I wouldn't bother with the GTX295. Being a dual-GPU card, you can expect anything from 10 to 60% (maybe little more) in performance gain (compared to same single GPU), but it really depends on the game. Far too unpredictable imho. And it's powerhungry, quite a bit more so than the 5770. Another strike against it is that it has 896MB effectively, compared to 1024MB on the radeon.

TBH, I'd wait and see what Nvidia is coming up with early next year. At this point you "should" buy the Radeon 5770/5750, but only because of a lack of competition.

*meant the 58xx offcourse, 5700 series is out so I'm confused.

Default Hmm some important add-on

This is an big issue with ATI, from a 5870 review:

""Yowzers -- Okay, so in the past we've talked a lot about dual-GPU gaming and the issues that come along with it. ATI's big challenge is that new games require a driverupdate or hotfix to become multi-GPU compatible. We are nearly a year away from the moment when the 4870 X2 was released, and it is with some frustration that I still have to report that ATI still has not implemented user based multi-GPU profiles. E.g. if a totally hot new game you just picked up is not yet supported by the driver, you could create your own profile and maximize performance. ATI... dudes... get that done, this is getting embarrassing.""
