Maybe SH5 is not as good. Or more restrictive. Then again, so is SH3' savegame-blues for me.

But yea, SH5 isn't nearly as immersive, fun, or as flexible (only 1 type of u-boat? ) as SH3 is with supermods added. |

Ok after several years of not playing SH I had this hankering to try again. I'm 'old' school all the way back to almost text only sub games.
I have a windows 7 home ultimate OS 460 GTX SLI system with a 1920X1080 monitor. So of course I'm getting the can't start the 3d engine issue, and the only way to fix it seems to be to set my desktop to SH3's original resolution. Has anyone found a work around to improve the resolution/make it real wide screen? |

Try taking the spaces out and run the installer again...

Silent Hunter III in Windows 7
OK, I got it to install. Trouble is now it will not start. I went over to the UBI site and Silent Hunter III is NOT listed on THEIR list of games that will work in Windows 7.
Is this true? I get to a screen where it gives me two options a) OK, which does nothing b) Some kind of program that makes a text file of my system But where would I send this file to if UBI says it will not work in Windows 7? |

Still will not Start
M-m-m-m-h.....UBI soft site seems to hint that this will NOT work in a Windows 7 environment, which seems kind of silly.
This is the main reason I stopped buying computer games years ago. Everytime I upgrade my computer I have to throw out all kinds of software that doesn't work any more. Sheesh! Don't know what else I can do when the original company doesn't even get back to you. |

SF stands for Starforce. It's actually a driver that was used as a type of disk protection when SH3 was first released. It's only applicable if you happen to have an early disk, in which case you can remove it by following the instructions here:

Patches?
Ok, I figured out Game Shadow which I didn't install. But why would I install the Euro patch when I'm in North America?
I did try the North American patch but it is still a no go. When I installed the 'no dvd' patch I'm getting a message that says something like "Mission Engine.dll" is unknown. My son got his game working on his older Vista computer but he is not sure how he did it. He said he installed something called a 'grey wolf' patch might have done it. I will try and find that and give it a try. |
