I looked at the wheels, and something wasnt right:

The spokes are crossing each other:

Decided to scratch build the spokes.
I needed to make the workbench.
After long, and hard thinking i drilled the hole in the Tamiya primer top:

Inside the styrene tube- size bigger than the hole was glued in.
The length of the tube is identical with the inside ring of the primer top:

The stabiliser was glued in- it rests on the inside ring.
Round the hole another piece of styrene was glued in to keep things steady:

Brass tube was glued in to form the axis.

On the top ring made from CD was glued on.
Another bit- slightly thicker was glued to the base of the tube to keep things steady when the spokes are removed:

Bottom part of the rim in place:

Top part on:

Side view with the wheel in place:

I got a dollar that says Siara actually gets this to run.

I know I will enjoy this build as much as the last one.

I have the break from the shipyard, waiting for the insulators.
My friend Wink in Australia is trying to cast the set of them in resin, so untill then nothing can be done on U-552.
I thought i start the bike instead.
I never run 2 builds at the same time, but the bike is so nice i just gave in.
I always liked the wehrmacht bikes, and despite owning 11 bikes in total- some vintage bikes also- i never had the pleasure to own the real german boxer.
So i will put all my heart into this project.
Stay tuned.

Spokes.
This is the most time consuming part of the project, but one which makes all the difference between good model, and the great.

Picture of the break up of the wheel assembly:

...and the first trials of making the spokes from the craft pins.

Each pin needs to be reshaped to required size, and correct diameter.
Theres 160 spokes to be made for 4 wheels.

TBC...

The tool for cutting nipples was made:

Thin brass tubing mounted in the Dremel tool:

Cut with the hobby knife:

Easy way to cut 160 nipples:

Using 3 different diameters of the brass tubing i made the tool for turning the hubs:

Spokes have been cut:

Hub after turning. I also thinned the lip:

Comparison with the original part:

This week i bought the second hand rider figure from the eighties.
It wasnt easy to find one, but i managed to pinpoint it in Columbia MO.

...and some resin body parts for the second figure from my friend:

The layout will look like so- cobblestone street, with tram line possibly (just part of the line in the corner of the dio). The motorcycle rider will be sitting on his bike by the kerb. The gandarme will be offering the cigarette to the rider. I will possibly make single street lamp (working).
