Thanks Fred. I'm sure once everyone gets a feel for Windows 10, any bugs will get worked out with regards to gaming and everything else. If not, one can always partition their hard drive and have a number of separate operating systems with which to play their games while working out any issues with windows 10. Like August said, he still has XP and I'm sure many others still have Windows 7 or XP they work with in their gaming.

Go here:

I had the same issue. Found this link and selected 64bit for my system. Worked like a charm.

Hmm. I haven't heard anything from MS yet, but when I clicked your link and followed the instructions it asked me if I wanted to download Win10 now. I clicked "Yes". We'll see what happens next.

I have it downloaded and installed. It took awhile, but I encountered no problems. Everything seems to be working well so far.

Only two negatives so far:

1. Clicking the Start button still takes you to the Start Page - the one with all the tiles. Re-installing Classic Shell took care of that. Other than that the Start Page doesn't exist, unless you want to look at something there.

2. Microsoft Edge (the replacement for Windows Explorer) works fine, but all my Favorites disappeared. The good news is that they are all stored in a folder in Windows/Users, so I can re-install them. I'm only doing this one-at-a-time as I go to each page.

Other than that I don't see much difference from 8.1, which seems to be a good thing.

If I do not see Windows 10 as an update option, does that mean my 6 year old laptop won't run it?

Try this procedure Steve to use Mozilla or any other browser you want. This should give you back your favorites

Upgrading to Windows 10 will automatically make Microsoft Edge your PC's default Web browser, even if you used a different browser when your PC was running Windows 7 or Windows 8. You can make Mozilla Firefox, Google (GOOGL, Tech30) Chrome, Apple (AAPL, Tech30) Safari or another app your default browser in Windows 10, but it's not as easy or intuitive to do that as it was in previous versions of Windows.

1) Click the "Use this as my default browser" button. That will launch the Settings app, opened to the "Choose default apps" tab.

2) Click on the Microsoft Edge logo. Picking a browser won't immediately be visible: You'll have to scroll down to where it says "Web browser," and click on Edge -- something Mozilla notes "may not be intuitive."

3) Click on the browser of your choice. You'll be prompted to choose an app (Mozilla would appreciate it if you chose Firefox, but Microsoft will show you all of the browsers installed on your PC). Close the window to save your changes.

At that point you can choose and save your favorites within the browser of your choice.

I hope this helps you and everyone else

Cortana found the solution for me. Cortana is the new MS locator service, operating directly from the task bar. You can talk to it directly, though I have that part disabled. I also closed the task bar Cortana window, as it takes up a lot of space. Just a few minutes ago I was wondering if I had spelled a word correctly. When I highlighted the word and right-clicked on it, one of the options that came up was "Ask Cortana." Sure enough, it found it right away.

I'm liking it so far.

The age of the computer is not what keeping the update from loading. The OS is what is used to determine. Vista, 7, 8. A few post back I posted a link directly to the download for 32/64 bit. Give it a try.

I installed last night. It is a mix of W7 and 8. A bit funky compared to stand alone 7 but I'm used to the tiles and such as I have a Windows Phone 8.1. Cortana on my phone addresses me as Lord. It is kind of fun when she says, "May I help you, Lord?"

Anyway, it is supper nice to have my phone and computer sync flawlessly. Other than that my games run. No other issues found.

Thanks for the freebie MS!

Steve, up at the top of the browser window on the right side there is a symbol that looks like three horizontal lines. Click on it and there should be an option to import your favorites there. It allowed me to import both my explorer and google bookmarks into one file and alphabetized them too.

My computer is five years old, until I hear SH3/GWX, SH4, Il2-46 and Steel Fury run well on Windows 10 I won't upgrade.
