All Japanese tanker operators were organized in 1928 in the Nihon Tankaa Kyokai(Japan Tanker Association). In 1934 were 119.987 t of tanker tonnage and then with the new build programmes the number was increased to 364.344 t in 1940. At the start of the war the 07-12-41 were 49 ocean going type tankers, of these 20 of the type fast with speed between 16 knts and 19 knts.They were not new constructions between december 1941 and May 1942, and new tankers were mainly builded from January 1943. Does that list include conversions? I know some ships were converted to tankers, but not designed as tankers. Whale factories like Tonan Maru (19,000 tons?) are an example of this.

No, only ships builded and designed as tankers not convesions.Only partial exception are the Tamano and Hayasui class ; the Tamano type was build originally as Fast Fleet tanker and aircraft transport. The Hayasui were Fast Fleet tankers and Seaplane carriers, actually only one was built ,the namesake Hayasui(sunk 19-08-44 by USN Bluefish).

Excelent models there, fine masterpieces. Recommended site. I have some merchants models in 1/700 , the line of Pit Roads/Waveline, Skywave but this collection is great.
