Default We need patch v.1.3

As long that improvements can be made, they must be done! It's a matter of respect for the player and a principle of quality that will be positive for UBI and the future games.

I think that SH 3 played much more realistic than sh4. The only things better is sh 4 is the graphics.

I have uninstalled SH 4 and have no intentions of ever buying a UBI Soft product in the future. Very disappointing

I was disabled in 2003 and most of the time house bound . I turned to the computer for companonship and found the Subsim community and SH3. Since then my life has not been boring and I get lots of joy playing SH3-GWX and reading the forums and getting to know my shipmates. Have recently just joined replying in the forums. When you are disabled and on a set income money is hard to come by. So when SH4 was going to be released me and my wife began saving change and cans to sell to save the money for the game. The day of the release I had it in my hands. What Joy. Now I feel betrayed and cheated because the product was not complete as advirtised. Ubisoft you owe me for any patch that is needed. Ubisoft, this is not a feel sorry for me post, this is to show you just how loyal a fan I am of your sub games. This post is simply to get you to get off your ass and patch this game, as I a disabled person got off his ass and bought your game. Hoist the sails Neal, I'm with you on this.

I'm going to throw in my two cents: I'm irritated with Ubisoft. Yes, SH4 is a good product. Is it great? No. Is it good enough? That's debatable. I tend towards the hardcore side of sub simming, with enough salt thrown in to make up for little irritants (c'mon, I'm sitting in front of a monitor... I have to let some things slide). Major irritants... well, they kick me out of the zone I was in, and leave me cursing the game. Ubi becomes guilty by association in my mind, at that point.

Now I realize a good portion of today's PC game producers leave their products in an unfinished state, either by not including promised features, leaving bugs, or simply sweeping problems under the rug (trying to conceal them).

If Ubi allows the dev's to continue patching SH4, then Ubi stands above the rest of the market. I know they stand behind their product. I will have no problems purchasing a new sim, knowing that if their product has an issue, they will repair it. If they do not, then they have lost my faith, and any future purchases.

So far, I've been rather faithful to Ubi... I've purchased SH3, SH4, all of the Il-2 Sturmovik series (excepting 1946), Ghost Recon, etc. I may be a sub fanatic, but I do wander outside that niche. Losing faith in Ubi means losing those other purchases, too... more than just the next sub sim Ubi puts out (if they put one out).

I'd love to add one other thing: The PC game market is such right now that I'm becoming very irritated. A great deal of the games are the "same old" regurgitated content and playstyle, just revamped and shiny. The games that do dare to go outside the trend (thanks, Ubi, for the simulations!), are often buggy and/or incomplete.

I don't purchase the first, and I will not purchase the second if I lose faith in the producer to give me a solid experience.

Enough irritation, and I'm very tempted to just drop commercial PC gaming completely. I've been keeping an eye on the "Danger From The Deep" project, knowing it's open source. There were a few instances where SH3 irritated me, leaving me at DFTD's website, wondering if I ought to get involved in their project. Right now, I do not have enough experience to get seriously involved... however, I will if I become irritated enough.

My point? SH3 had a very solid modder's community, taking a product from Ubi and extending it, bringing it ever so closer to the ideal. There are currently problems in SH4 (and SH3, for that matter) that the modders simply cannot fix, due to the problems being hard coded. With commercial products, that's the end of the story... they simply cannot fix them. With an open source product like DFTD, they can.

So if Ubi lets me down on SH4, I will most likely turn my attentions from any other future sub sim from Ubisoft, and place those attentions and energy on a project like DFTD. And I will do my best to be vocal about it, encouraging other modders to "come with me." If a company will not provide me with the experience I desire, I will help to build it myself.

Obviously, that'd require a relatively massive effort, much more than is required to purchase and play a sub sim from Ubi (or any other producer I have faith in). I'd be much happier having Ubi follow through on their support of SH4, allowing me to continue my faith in them, enjoy SH4, and continue to purchase their products in the future.

If not, that's fine... I'll do it myself .

Default Shame

What can I say but to agree with all of you guys. SH3 was a great thrill which was boosted even more by GWX - btw, great job guys. I spent days and nights "at sea", so much that it became a joke between my friends.

When SH4 was announced I drooled over released screenshots and couldn't wait for the release date. As soon as SH4 was available in shops I bought it and in short time I was dissapointed with the number of bugs in the game. It offers great visual effects but "the core" is missing (like in some girls )...

What we need is patching as long as all major bugs are removed, AI gets better and all the other stuff already mentioned here gets fixed. Otherwise, I will certainly think at least twice before I ever buy something from Ubi again.

Last but not least - what's with this "you need to beg for a patch" attitude? Ubi, you make a living from customers or vice versa?

Regards to all from Croatia,
I.P.

I too agree: a game like this need to be completed by the company, which get the money from the customers.

--> I never played this game, but read the forum closeley AND either a game, which works fine OR never my money in your busket...

It's a shame that SHIV was so quickly released, when so many bugs were still unfixed. It's now Ubi's responsibility to fix it! Give this game the respect it deserves, and make it one of the best subsims ever.

Default SH4 Patch1.3

I was not going to purchase SH4 untill all the major bugs had been ironed out as SH3 became a superb game after all the fixes were released, but I like many people wanted to see what Ubisoft could do with the extra processing and graphics power available to more modern computers and yes I did also upgrade my graphics card after seeing the original specs.

I was severely disappointed by SH4, it was obviously a game that was released too quickly after too little testing. Yes. the graphics are fantastic and so much more has been added to the game - mission wise apart from the SH3 "go to an area and patrol for 24 hours" that can prove very challenging. Graphics and gameplay aside, the basics didn't work.

SH4 needs patch 1.3 and probably patch 1.4 as well (any patch created will normally highlight other bugs).

As it stands under 1.2 we can now consistently hit what we are aiming at (?) but too much seems still to be lacking.

The chronometer is the most important bug, it was also one of the most important instruments in the submarines, if this doesn't work, the game doesn't work.

My lookouts cannot seem to spot aircraft at all and have to rely on radar to pick them up (at 2-4,000 yards) leaving not enough time to dive to escape the highly accurate depth charges.

Early war (1940) Japanese convoy escorts have perfected the 1943-44 allied tactic of 3 destroyers attacking and 1 listening without needing any sort of learning curve as was present in SH3 and all those destroyers which aren't crewed by brain dead zombies seem to have perfect sonar capabilites, reacting to evasive measures even as they are making a depth charge run.

The maunual is lacking all those niceties that were present in the SH3 manual, what are the differences between the various American submarines, what is my maximum diving depth and how far can my torpedoes reach at what speeds?

I support the call for additional patches as needed as what is presently a mediocre game has the potential to be the best sub sim on the market.

Hats off to Ubisoft for what they have accomplished so far but please continue to support the game to a playable standard.

UBI, please continue to patch this sim. The potential here is incredible. Don't let us down.

Default 1.3 Patch needed

I would like to echo Neal's comments. I am still having ctds during campaigns. This is a great game but still needs bugs fixed. One of the annoying things is lifeguard duty. I can come up on a downed pilot showing on radar and cannot see him visually. I spent two hours trying to pick one up and finally cancelled the campaign. I have been rammed by destroyers several times in a campaign and never have been sunk.
