Support Do I Need To Follow Missions?

Do I need to follow the missions that the game gives me?

I was wondering this because I seem to be at the mercy of the game given patrol areas that I already know will have very little or lack shipping.

If I don't follow the missions, do I get a harsh penalty?

Once you've finished patrolling your assigned area, expand you hunting, the orders always says sink enemy shipping where ever possible.

Obviously, as a highly trained naval officer, you are expected to use your judgement in following orders. If you feel that you may have better success in locating enemy shipping in other areas, you can use your initiative to locate the enemy for disposal.

I happen to know of one harbor on the southern side of Oahu that is just full of ships. There's another one about midway across the ocean, too. Great hunting spots, and they'll never expect you.

Complete your Objective(s) .... then you are free to sink shipping up the Niger river to Timbuktu, or anywhere else if you wish.

Happy Hunting!

the objectives cannot be ignored, but the orders can be ignored, so complete the objectives or you cannot progress in your campaign and will have to repeat the missions again and again.

keep an eye on completing the objectives, then go where you want after that
