Default "New" old skipper hoping to scrape off the barnacles

Hi all. I was part of the ole wpl egl back when sh2/dc was in its heyday.
That email addy and associated screenname has long since been deleted.
Also enjoyed sh1, aod, and DW a bit.

is the new sh online any good ?

which if any of the sh titles are good for multiplayer? (using win 8.1 4gb ram)

I truly miss sinking Malefactor and Badhat regularly

Great to see this forum still so active

Edit - LOL same avatars. Feels like home already.

Ahoy! Thanks for the welcome.

So Ive been playing sh online a little. Needs a lot of work unfortunately.

Im running win8.1

DO any SH titles work on win8.1 ?

Ubisoft should just modernize sh2/dc (and file protect the units lol)
That had so much potential and was great fun even if DD had permanent sonar contact once detected.

Someone find stormin norman of SSI or his progeny and put them to work.

SH3, SH4 and SH5 all work just fine with 8.1.

Something I've said many times myself.

Ubi had them when they made SH2. Ubi paid them off and fired them, apparently because SSI wanted to make SH2 right and Ubi wanted it now.

I just popped sh2 into my win 8.1 laptop and it WANTS to work.
Installed just fine.
Game starts , everything looks great.

I went into a 2 minute semi ecstatical daydream about how we could get
the ole wpl/egl stat game going again now that everyone has like 4 gb 8 gb ram instead of 64 - 512 mb .

then I select a mission and it froze on "loading mission" screen

I havent bought or played 3 4 or 5.

I think threw out sh1 a couple years ago thinking it could never be used again

You'll find a lot of SH2 questions and answers here . I've never looked back because for me, aside from the multiplayer, SH2 was a dead end and lost many things contained in SH1. SH3 was a revelation, changing the way everything worked, and after ten years I'm still playing it.

Oh it still works just fine on my old xp desktop. So does DC.
But single play lost its appeal years and years ago.
I miss sinking someones convoy and then going deep while they kill a bunch of fishies with their dc's

Was just hoping to find a way to get it working on 8.1 due to the major difference in ram everyone has nowadays.

I couldn't find a version of quicktime that's compatible with 8.1
That might be all that's holding it back
