Default Collisions/escort ramming

If you're at periscope depth, will a merchant or escort cause damage to the sub if they run over/ram it ?
Do escorts even try ramming ? It was a not uncommon tactic.
Been trying to test it in some of the academy missions, but hard to do. In the convoy one, the merchant came to a dead stop instead of hitting me.

Hi John yes Escorts in Silent Hunter III will run over you and damage your Uboat if your at periscope depth and merchant ships too.
Later in the war the nearest escort to you may not do a run on you he will call in other approaching escorts to attack you
with a whats known as a creeping attack slowly heading for you at 3-5 knots 2/3 escorts droping a five charge pattern b for baker over your area with 3-4 escorts some of them elite its a real challenge getting away from them because you will be beam on to one of them all the time.
Also in 1943 when Hedgehogs a forward firing mortar bomblets with contact exploders fired at you at 200-300mtrs from you were fitted to escorts
it gave the escorts another string to there bow so to speak the days were gone when you could let the escort close on you from behind then when he got close 200/300mtrs away you would go at flank speed turn 30-45° and the depth charges would explode 300-400mtrs behind you
and theres the constant threat of aircraft joining the party too in multiplayer and single missions I have experienced this many times.

Ok, good. After seeing the ship come to a dead stop instead of hit me, I thought there was another "SH3" moment.
If you're using a supermod, which one is it ?

Hmmmm. Just did the wolfpack single mission in NYGM. Planted myself to get hit at 90 degrees by a merchant, it hammered my sub.
No damage. Is there a mod available to fix this that anyone knows about ? Maybe this ? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...do=file&id=611

I had some suspicions about this scenario, hence the testing.

Hi John on the realism settings did you tick the realistic vulnerability box
on the single player missions

the super mod we use at the steel sharks is GWX Gold or 3 when GWX first came out and I played the morning wolfpack multiplayer mission the flower class corvet always used to get me but I invested a lot of time trying different approaches to the convoy.
As you line up infront of the convoy cut your engines
rig for silent running and let the convoy pass through you bingo your now inside the escort screen picking the juiciest targets.
Another tip here target the furthest away ship first then the second furthest away ship then the nearest ship so when the torpedo hits the nearest ship the other torpedoes have already struck home confusing the escort screen they may think theres more than one uboat attacking the convoy and as the first torpedo hits the escorts head for that area

Playing the Campaign what Uboat should I pick

1.Type VII fast maneuverable and dives in 25 sconds from surface
2. has 14 torpedos

1. Type IX takes 35 seconds to dive from surface
2. has 21 torpedoes
3.bigger Uboat less maneuverable than a type VII

How to become a better SH3 Player

Patience and Practice this is where multiplayer comes in very useful when you get KIA killed in action 20-30mins into a multiplayer SH3 Mission don't leave go to continue as an observer.
Moving around the virtual ocean hovering over other players and watch them operate you have seen the film dances with wolves this is a variation of that waltzes with escorts how they creep past escorts like they are a Klingon warbird of prey fully cloaked
Gliding past escorts at will then hitting a large tanker and a troopship then slipping away to rear of the convoy then attacking again sinking another two ships before slipping away to the depths on a slow glide at one knot not alerting to the escorts to your location

Hi, yeah, I have all the necessary realism options checked. Middle of a NYGM patrol right now, been hitting a convoy the last two game days.
Two tankers so far, no escort problems so far. I leave right after shooting, and then catch up to the convoy again later.
Did the wolfpack single mission three times and put myself in a position to get clobbered at pd every time by a merchant. No damage.
Oh well, just one of those things I guess. Everything else (gunfire, depth charges, etc. cause damage) when testing.
Thanks for the reply.

Gets stranger. Just did the same tests with GWX gold, and the merchant hitting the sub sank it one time, heavily damaged hull another time.
So seems to be working in GWX but not NYGM.
