Default Bad patrol with even worse ending...

We'll I just started a new career (1939 with OM) and got command of a type IX U-boot. We'll left for the patroll area west of spain and almoast immediatly I spotted a 6000+t merchant. Got in a perfect position and all calculations were spot on. I fired two torpedos and waited for them to hit. Well after waiting for some time I got a message that both the torps were duds. Well I hadn't been spotted so I fired another torp, wich exploded but didn't sink so I inished it of with the gun. After that I continued to the patrol area but didn't spot any ships. After turning around and heading home I spotted a 30+ ship convoy with 4 escorts, 3 DDs and one BB (HMS Warspite).
I againg got in a perfect position and fired a salvo of four torps. Well one of the torps missed and the rest...were duds...So far I had had 6 dud torps. Well they didnt spot me so I followed the convoy, reloaded the tubes and attacked again. But again the torps were duds and they spotted the wake of one of the torps. After all the rear tubes and getting the dud message another four times the sub had got so many hits it was just about to sink I decided to retreat. Well I managed to save the boat and the crew and I entered the english channel. After sinking 3 more merchants with the deck gun I returned to port. After returning to port I got the following message.

I thought I would just get a new IX type since it was so early in the war.

BUT NO! Those greedy ba*t*rds gave me a Type II!
What were they thinking! "Hmm.. he sunk 4 ships with the deck gun so let's give him a sub with no gun and only dud torps!"

And I'll add that I was in no way responsible for the duds. All torps were fired correctly and those pipes of scrap metal just didn't work.

Also sorry for any typos since I havn't had much sleep the last few nights.

Be glad it's only a game?

Be grateful at least your alive?

Take your boat and defect to the other side?

I really don't know what to tell you. Sometimes life just dumps all over you.

Well the weird thing is that I still have to patrol the same areas as with the Typr IX and now I have to go back to port to get more torps everytime I sink a ship. Usually I'll get about half way and then find a ship, sink it and then I'll have to return to port and it all starts again.
