Default A New Way To Play

Good to hear from you my friend, been a while indeed.
Unfortunately no idea what the future of ATWAR is, haven't had contact with Hans in months.
Concentrating on this project these days.
Don't think I could ever go back to SH5, great graphics can not help the core of that one for me.

Don't worry your not crazy, when I started this project that was part of my vision too.
In fact it's not that difficult to do either.
I already have all the systems I require in my application to handle all periscope inputs.
In fact my first prototype was for a torpedo panel that incorporated periscope raise/lower and target lock.

That early torpedo panel can be seen here in an early video I did on the TDC at the start.

After the TDC I'll be redoing the torpedo panel, then possible compass and uboat control systems. Then I'll take a look at getting a periscope working.

I'd suggest keeping HAHD and ATWAR issues seperate from reapers7's work.

This is something reaper7 has worked on by himself for a long time.
If you want to talk about something else? PM him.

I myself don't want to see this thread cluttered up and going off topic.
Go Mate!! You know I've been drooling since you told me about it!

I doubt I could detract from Reaper's TDC project as it looks very near completion including even the torpedo panel.A working periscope would be great and I will wait to see what you come up with.

Sucks about Han is all I can say.

Cheers guys, hopefully I'm close to finishing up the TDC.
Still the perfectionist in me keeps me revising and improving what I've done to date.
Still is very close now to what I envisioned.

Utterly incredible work as always, can't wait to see this develop further. I'll be buying one instantly.

Intrigued that your self-written I/O software (also impressive) includes periscope inputs already as I've nearly finished my prototype. The inputs on mine were much more of the sledgehammer keyboard emulator variety.

Thanks for all the work you've put into this, I always feared a proper I/O interface with SH3 would be impossible.

Hi Karl, would love to see what you have come up with. Really intrigued to see your design.

What I was thinking was gyroscopic control for rotation.
Standard inputs for lock zoom etc.
And a nice small monitor maybe 1080p for inside optics.

hey John , the next step will be a diesel engine (ok,ok...a smal one!) working somewhere behind the desk and some smokes from the exhaust making some 'atmosphere'

hehehe, seriously now this is going to be an epic project ! all the best to your efforts

Brilliant, yes that would definitely set the mood for a nice cruise mid Atlantic.

Close to getting the 360deg dual gauge for the AOB with vernier working.
Once that's up and running with same reliability as the 315deg Target speed Guage, I should be done with the prototype stage.
Will most likely look for one or two early adaptors for beta testing the system.

I was thinking about a periscope recently - wondered about using a smartphone as a drop-in screen, into a desk-based periscope, with the smartphone communicating to a pc (via wifi, bluetooth, usb or whatever) to get its display. That would simplify the design of the periscope (and make it cheaper): it would basically be a, well, periscope(!) viewing a screen via a pair of mirrors. This would also mean that you could simulate the raising and lowering on-screen rather than physically (or offer both as options, perhaps).

Just ideas.

Add in this Arduino Enigma Machine (along with a specific mod to simultate the code books to use it and the encrypted radio messages) and the simulation factor will skyrocket!

Default A New Way To Play

Sorry for lack of updates, but haven't been working on this for a while.
Hit a bit of a road block with regards code for the 360deg dual gauges eg gyroangle.

Need to sit down and think hard on a solution to this one.

@banru79 thanks for that link, hasn't come across that one before.
Had my eye on this one to build http://www.stgeotronics.com/Enigma-M...ed-Plugged.htm
But price is of putting, so may have to design and build my own one day.

Edit: here is a good read on using enigma

Wow, it looks like awsome!! And a bit expensive, I think I will go with the simulation indicated by SquareSteelBar for now, lol

I'd like to read it but I think the link is not correct...

@SquareSteelBar: nice Enigma simulator, and here is an interesting "Operation Turing" site that gives you some context and story to joyfully play with it

some one has to work out a means whereby one could use a hydraulic system to make a house shake at the right angles and from the correct directions to simulate being depth charged!!

this TDC is great work. get this gentleman his own sub!!

Hi all,

it is really nice piece of equipment

If you are interested, here you can find the simulation of the real, original device.
