Type 21 in Silent Hunter V

Does anyone know if the type 21 makes an appearance late in the game to balance the gameplay? I'm hoping the game manufacturers will release a late war type 21 add on pack. I really want to sail that boat. If they made an add on pack I would buy it, perhaps introducing the type 21 12 months early. Does anyone know whether the modding community can do this if the manufacturers don't?

Whilst not impossible I would say its highly unlikely, certainly for the near future on both counts.

Consider the time and effort to research, build, skin, light, populate and animate the interior of a type 21 sub to a similar level of detail even if you had all the tools.

Could a development team work with modders to build one? ask Mr.Urfisch...

It is not a matter of making a new sub or interior. We have the exterior and interior from the previous games. It is just a matter of figuring out how exactly to import them into the game.

I just tried to import the type IX into the game, but it is way too much work for one person, and no one really seems interested in helping. So, I am dropping my work on it.

Yes, I think it is possible. Going to take a lot of work, and we may not be able to iron out every bug. But, with patience(a lot of patience) I think we will see all subs in the game.

Personally I think a more significant sub would be the ducks. The XX1 didn't do much at all, and that far too late in the war.

But the ducks have been doing their thing since the start of the war, on the other hand, and offer a different style of play.

Mind you, this is probably an age-old debate.

I played SH3 with GWX and some other mods, and later in the war I was very lucky to sail with a XXI type sub, and I can assure you that it wasn't so funny to be in no mather what type of sub in that time of the war. They simply (the allieds) blew you every time out of the water.
Mostly with DC's, and otherwise with those f.....g Hedgehogs. And not one escort, but numerous. It's not so funny to attack a convoy with 18 escorts! Even with the quick speed of the sub and the quick torpedo loading time.
That's surely one of the reasons Germany lost the war.
Too little, too less and too late!

there won't be any official addon, ubisoft has all but abandoned this game

but I really really hope someone releases a XXI mod, XXI was my favorite sub from SH3, I remember even sending in a bug report about the snorkel not functioning correctly

please please please someone make a XXI mod someone

XXI is the forerunner of modern subs

Apparently what I just said fell on completely deaf ears......Everyone seems as if they completely did not even see my post. Oh well. I suppose all sub imports in the near future do not have any real interest.

It's my understanding that the previous versions aren't compatible with SH5, especially the way the interiors are made. They also don't include anything but the control rooms and conning towers. I would think that everything would have to be built from scratch.

That said, I will be glad to be proven wrong. If it turns out to be easy to develop other boats you won't hear any complaints from me.

Everything really can be taken from the old files. The problem is that some things simply do not work with .dat format. Such as dynamic shadows, reflections, and a few other effects. If a group were to really try to tackle importing another sub I think it is possible.

My next pet project will be to add objects in the sub using .dat files. Lets see if I make progress.

personal speaking modding takes many hours of work, the smallest detail I find can hold things up for days, weeks even. How some the aces like Lurker and DarkWraith can dedicate so much time boggles my mind and the fine results speak for themselves, thats without all the folks working away tweaking here and there.

I thought that in SH3 people set up mod teams to achieve some of the best results, their finest hour. Maybe a new forum is needed dedicated to modding teams so folks can join a team and work together.

the type IX and XXI in SH5 would be and exciting adventure and maybe you could find help and work with others.

It's not that I dedicate so much time to modding, it's more of I know what I'm doing and that makes a big difference time wise. I have a 'normal' job that keeps me entertained Monday-Friday (and some weekends) plus hobbies (that eat much of my time!). I don't use tools (except for those that I developed myself) and thus I have knowledge of the file system and the files. S3D, to me, was the worst thing to ever come to the SH series. Now let me explain why I think so: You all learn nothing from it - just plug and chug SH5 proves this point as S3D has limited use with it - and you can see the results of this - not much 'hard core' modding from people

Why do people always ask for typ XXI boats and not for type XIII boats which actually were in service and sank some allied ships late in the war.
Not that I´d say some people have to mod them in, but just wondering.

For the same reason airwar gamers want an Me-262 rather than a Bf-109B. The want the latest, greatest as early as possible, so they can rule the seas and skies.

Me, I'll be happy with a Type II.

Dam DW, you should write a book then or simply update the SH3-4 manual for the rest of plebs. I hear what you say and admire your simplistic approach, I will never reach these dizzy height due to the fact time has worn the edge off my blade. But I give thanks for your abilities.

Blades can always be resharpened Those that have no 'blade' can start making one by abandoning the 'instant gratification' they've become so accustomed to (thanks to society ) and take the hard road and actually learn the whys and hows.
It just boggles my mind how people have no interest in the hows or whys something works and/or it's design. For me I can't wait to take something apart to see how/why it was designed like it was, if there's any way to improve it, and how to exploit it (make it do things it was never intended to do). I work with 'Gen X' and I get SO angry with them because all they want is 'instant gratification' - give me, give me (not all of them but majority of them)....they have no desire or will to learn anything And these 'Gen X' that have this no desire are going to be running society someday? We are all doomed
