What is Terrain Objects LOD Size?
What is Terrain Objects LOD Size? What impact does it have on frames? There is not an explanation in the manual or game. Neither mentions Terrain Objects Density (I can figure that out) or Terrain Objects LOD Size.

My first guess was the higher the LOD size, the further out high poly models would be displayed before switching to a lower LOD. However, according to GFX presets, it's actually the other way around !? Thank you OakGroove,
But, what is Terrain Objects LOD? What does it do? What does LOD stand for? Quote:

NP 08x15, LOD stands for Level Of Detail, this entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level_o...l_(programming) explains it thoroughly. In case of SH4 i guess the terrain LOD slider affects Scenary LOD, i.e. Buildings, trees, rocks, seaweed etc.

Level of Detail, it's always obvious after you're told.
Thank you OakGrove. I got it.

most of the time I get around 6-10 FPS, When I turn on the enviornmental effects, I get 2-3 FPS on the Bridge and out side the boat.
I have an AMD 1.8GHz Prossessor an ATI 200m graphics card and 1 Gig of RAM. If I add a second Gig of RAM, will I get up to 6-10 FPS out side my boat with Enviornmental effects on? Will a second Gig of RAM improve my frame rate outside my boat? Or should I look into overclocking my current prossessor, or a new one all together?

DVD vs. copy protection?
I have been playing the game for a few days now, and I must say I like it a lot. I like the way the periscope and TCD are set up, as well as the new crew management etc.
I would like the radar to be more user-friendly, though, and I hope the bugs will be corrected. Nevertheless, my thanks to the developers for a great game, with the following disclaimer, though. What really troubles me is a problem I suppose has something to do with copy protection. Once I insert the DVD, in only works (if at all) after a few (1-15 times) of inserting and re-inserting the DVD to the drive (Samsung SH-S162L lightscribe). Even then, it might take quite a long time until the splash screen appears. I'm writing this after 25min of trying, still the DVD won't work. I have the Collector's edition. I'v had the same problem with games such as FEAR and Company of Heroes (which both I took back to the retailer). I just like SH4 so much I wouldn't like to do that. I've had no problems with other games, music CDs or other DVDs. Hence I believe the problem is in the DVD. My drivers are all up to date, and the game itself (once it works) works fine. Does anyone have any (legal) solution to this, or at least can anyone suggest a DVD drive that can cope (read) with most of the copy protection? It is pretty frustrating I can't play something I've paid for. Any help from the developers? It has now been around 35min and still not working.. Miika

Some standard advice:
Reboot your PC, then try again. Make sure the DVD is clean. Update the firmware of your DVD drive Buy a cleaning CD to clean the laser lens. |

Looks like even though Starforce is history, copy protection won't stop harassing the Silent Hunter seies.

No solution so far

As everything else works fine, all I can think of is DVD drive - SH4 mismatch. Appears I have to try buying a new DVD drive. Bummer... Nevertheless, thanks for the tips. Miika

Have loaded SH4 Ok. Also patch. Go into menu and select a quick mission. Loads up and there I am in the control room. Problem :- FPS flicks constantly between 50 down to 1 ie: 50-1-38-1-49-1 etc. Mouse Pointing to anything is almost impossible - extremely sluggish. Water doesn't render except in wake. Any ideas plz?
