Add to that the Kuwaiti Lightning:
I believe the Irish Airforce also used them, but stopped using them when they realised they made holes in the wing when the bombs were released!!

Nuthin good goes outta style!
Quote:
Forget holes in the wings: The steel tipped 100 gram black powder rockets were fired electrically from the interplane struts supporting the wings of biplanes via a cockpit switch. The switch launched all the rockets consecutively. The rockets were generally fired at a range of 100–150 metres with the aircraft at an inclined dive angle of 45 degrees. The steeper the dive the straighter the trajectory and the more accurate the attack. (as a black powder shooter: the angle would dissipate the 'rainbow effect' of blackpowder projectile; much like an arc golf shot.) Attacks were made in the direction of the length of the balloon and against the wind, (steadier with a rotary engine wobble but slowing the attack speed: (80 mph) the pilot taking aim via the plane's existing gun-sight. However, the ignition and discharge of each rocket did not occur immediately and a delay varied slightly from one rocket to another. Thus the pilot had to continue to hold the target in his gun-sight and the dive continued until the last rocket discharged.Bear in mind the anti-aircraft artillery on a preset balloon altitude was severe around observation balloon of the time...nerves of steel time here. https://robertwalshwriter.wordpress.com/2015/10/01/the-balloon-busters/ Quote:

The Coningsby Jaguars were always a common sight from my back garden, streaking out over The Wash toward the firing ranges.

I've a few friends who like you, live next to airbases and I honestly envy them, especially in the summer months.
