Hey everything got mounted 'over the wing(s)' including the Le Prieur rockts on a Nieuport 16

Forget holes in the wings: The steel tipped 100 gram black powder rockets were fired electrically from the interplane struts supporting the wings of biplanes via a cockpit switch. The switch launched all the rockets consecutively. The rockets were generally fired at a range of 100–150 metres with the aircraft at an inclined dive angle of 45 degrees.The steeper the dive the straighter the trajectory and the more accurate the attack. (as a black powder shooter: the angle would dissipate the 'rainbow effect' of blackpowder projectile; much like an arc golf shot.) Attacks were made in the direction of the length of the balloon and against the wind, (steadier with a rotary engine wobble but slowing the attack speed: (80 mph) the pilot taking aim via the plane's existing gun-sight. However, the ignition and discharge of each rocket did not occur immediately and a delay varied slightly from one rocket to another. One thing separating most balloon busters from regular fighter aces was that many of the war’s most famous aces actively refused to attack balloons at all. Manfred von Richthofen never attacked a balloon. Top-scoring British ace Edward ‘Mick’ Mannock scored his first ‘kill’ by destroying a balloon, but found the job so dangerous that he never attacked another. (oddly both were killed by ground-fire anyway) Destroying observation balloons had genuine influence on the local progress of the war. Shooting down novice enemy fighter pilots and very occasionally killing a leading enemy ace simply didn’t have the same value.
