5. Division reaches Lake Ladoga as it captures Koirinoja.



In a surprise attack, Soviet troops capture the island of Morgonlandet.

The attack towards Murmansk by German Gebirgs-Korps Norwegen and Finnish IR/14 halts in Litsajoki.

German Army Group Centre captures Smolensk.

Finnish daily losses: 229

Near Rukajärvi, Finns attack Omelia in the morning.

Finnish troops attacking from the south cut the Omelia-Rukajärvi road, leaving the Russian IR/337 encircled in Omelia.

5.Division captures village of Salmi, 1.Division captures the 'Hyrsylä bend' area.

Detachment K (later Brigade K) is formed from Ingrians and those from Viena and Aunus Karelia.

Russian 7.Army tries to counter-attacks in Vieljärvi-Kolatselkä area.

Russian marines land on the island of Lunkulansaari.

Detachment Lagus captures Vitele and continue to Tuulos.

Karelian Army halts its advance in this direction and digs in on the Vitele-Vieljärvi line.



Kar.A's northern flank has still not managed to advance much due to stiff resistance.

The German 163.D especially suffers heavy casualties.

26 July 1941

Strike force of more than 60 Russians land on the Bengtskär lighthouse island just after midnight.

The 38 defending Finns retreat inside the lighthouse and begin to direct artillery fire from the nearby Örö fort on the attacking enemy.

Finnish reinforcements arrive during the morning and by 1845hrs the island is clear of enemies.

Finns lost 21 men, while the enemy's casualties were 36 KIA + 28 POW.

Finnish daily losses: 165


Finnish pioneers assault a machine gun position. (Somewhere in 2.D's area)
