Default Red pencil in nav map what for?

In the nav map, have you seen the red pencil "Support unit" that, can someone explain me what its that for?

Good question!!! I have been meaning to ask. You can select it but it does nothing other than look like a chewed up red pencil.

Just a guess, but maybe it was meant to modify map-marks...a feature that was promised in the manual - page 28 - of the original SH4, but somehow never made it into the game.

It does exactly what the text says: You can select the u-boat campaign support units with it. Click on the unit with the pencil, and you should be able to give orders to that unit.

Yes, when playing U-Boats you can call in both German and Japanese support ships, it also allows you to call upon Japanese reconnaissance aircraft from the marked airbases.
