My PC can obviously run it (no surprise there) but my laptop seems to be missing some very much needed video memory and shader version (again, no surprise). A bit of a shame though, cause SHIV is the kind of game one could easily play while stretched on the couch ...

As I havn't bought SH4 yet I was curious and tried the test. My computer failed, no surprise. However, anyone trying this test needs to read the results carefully. This computer failed in two areas according to the test. Cpu I knew, I have 700 something and will upgrade to 1.7 something. However, the video card failed, hmmm. The test said I failed but reading a little further down the screen I see that 128 mb is minimum and it said I have 256! And, so it seems in reality I am above minimum. Maybe UBI needs to have a patch for this test, but only after they continue working on SH4 of course.

Not all 256 video cards are the same. My integrated crapola passed all the video test requirements but was still rated as failed video and failed over-all. This was completly accuarte becuase I couldnt play it worth a damn till I upgraded cards. Upgraded my video card an now I play it real smooth and have high passing grade.

Von Hinten,I couldn't agree more!!SHIII & IV are great to play where you can have some mobility and playing while doing something else like reading a book or enjoying a ballgame, then when the action starts you can turn your full atention to the high seas!!! SHIII runs great on my laptop with all the bells and whistles,SHIV has to be turned down to min.but it's still playable. My video card failed the test[ATI xpress 200]everything else passed. Is it possible to update/change a laptop video card?

No, not that I know off. And it would probably cut a huge hole in my budget anyway. The website did mention something on updating the video drivers so I'll have a go at that tonight.

One other solution is to hook the PC up to the TV and enjoy SHIV in widescreen on that same couch, which, if you have that possibility, you should definitely try at least once.

Another option is what I do now: run SHIV on my gaming PC and do some reading and internet surfing on the laptop.

Minimum requirements passed, recommended requirements failed. No surprise there.

Yeah, but it is a drop dead gorgeous and uberfast system!!!

One of the fastest around.

Though I don't see any need to upgrade my X2 4200+ 4GB DDR2 6400
2 x WD Raptor 10K 36GB
ASUS M2N32SLI-Deluxe
ASUS GeForcce 7900GT TOP
2 x 250GB Seagate
Windows XP SP1 (no SP2 to me !!)

So basically the same only yours is a lot more advanced.

Funny fact BTW, a friend of mine has:

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2GB DDR 400 PC 3200
Ordinairy 120GB IDE 7200RPM
Leadtek GeForce FX5900 Ultra 256Mb

In other words, old system. But it runs like a charm.
Even passes reccomended test.

I guess I can pretty much be called poster boy for minimum specs.

AMD Athlon 2400+ (2 gig) at 266 FSB.
1 Gig of Corsair Value select PC 2100 DDR Ram at 266 FSB.
ATI Radeon 9600XT with 256 MB video ram. DX 9 compatable.
M7VIG Pro Motherboard with VIA onboard sound chip. AC 97 codec.

Windows XP SP2. No apps running in background with 17 processes running reserving 128 mb of Ram. I have virtual memory on a separate disk blocked at 3000 min & max. My box has enough fans to be used as a hovercraft. My power supply is an Antec true power 380 watt.

The game runs on 1027 x 768 at 75 hz. I have an old Viewsonic 17 inch p 70f.

In game, I use the default low setting adjusted a bit. I check 2 graphics boxes pertaining to ships and I have the ship damage turned up all the way.

Particle density is set one off the lowest.

At these settings, the game is playable. Looking thru the scope I get high teens to low 20s at max zoom. Zoomed out high 20s. The game jerks below 10 FPS during big explosions. I get the slow mouse when I am at the scope and it is on max zoom. It may be corrected by adding more memory. The event camera also hits the game hard. Have the event camera on while at the scope and it will go below 10. The sound works fine with hardware sound set to basic in dx diag.

One thing I noticed after I installed the game is the empty partition I installed it on became fragged big time. It might be because my partitions are fat 32 and not NTFS or maybe just the game installed funky.

Anyways: That’s my story and I am sticking to it!
