I did not always agree with him but I always thought he was a decent man.

I hope he died with little pain and some dignity.

I believe he has requested ex-presidents Obama and G.W.Bush deliver eulogies at his funeral and that his family had asked, before the senator's death, that Trump not attend the funeral services.

Correct. Trump was asked not to attend in the event of J. McCain's death.

RIP Maverick.

I've been watching, listening and reading the various media reports about Senator John McCain the past couple of days and, through out all the comments and recollections about Senator McCain, these words are most often seen or heard: honor, honorable, courage, integrity, principled, and others building an image of the man who did, indeed, embody those concepts and ideals. He reminded me of another great Arizona US Senator, Barry Goldwater, who also was a person who held loyalty to country over petty politics and partisanship. Both men knew how to get things done and knew "my way or the highway" was not the best position to take when dealing with the nation's needs. I have a very great deal of respect and admiration for both men and for McCain, in particular. The nation lost a great chance for a great Presidency when McCain lost to Obama, a loss caused more by the presence of Palin on the ballot than any possible deficiencies of McCain as a candidate. I was going to vote for McCain against Obama, but, after Palin, I didn't want to take the chance that albatross of a VP candidate might get a shot at the Oval Office. But McCain took the defeat with a graciousness seldom seen in US partisan politics and soldiered on in the Senate, fighting the good fight. He will be missed in the current world of US political life...

Senator John McCain left behind a letter to the American people to be released after his death. Here is a link to the full text:

McCain lived his life as his word was his bond. Like or dislike him, you always knew what he said and what he stood for was true to his beliefs and principles and they were the result of considered thought and not 'flavor of the month' politics. For the veterans he championed, he was a voice they believed in because he really was one of them and had given as much, and more, as they had given in service to their country. I hope someone will step up to keep McCain's advocacy alive...

RIP, Senator McCain, and we'll try to keep the light you showed us in your example as best as we can....
