Icon9 Cannot change from manual targeting

Starting over, ver. 1.5, GFO, RSRD. Cannot stop game from selecting manual targeting. I deselect it in options when starting game and hit save. Doesn't stick. Tried editing gameplaysettings.cfg in documents/SH4/data/cfg, but the game always changes it back to manual targeting. There's another gameplaysettings.cfg in Silent hunter 4 wolves of the pacific/data/cfg but it doesn't have custom settings. Help! Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Manual targeting stays set regardless of what I do in options checkboxes. It states the settings are saved, yet does not offer the custom setting selection in drop down menu when choosing difficulty settings ..after setting up what I want to start with. Grrr. I hate the generic 'easy' setting just to be able to bypass manual targeting. -just sayin.

Thanks Aktungbby! Good to be hunting the high seas again.

I finally got manual targeting turned off! Here's what I did.

There are several gameplaysettings.cfg scattered throughout SH4. Besides documents/SH4/data/cfg/ and Silent hunter 4 wolves of the pacific/data/cfg/, also in saved games!

documents/SH4/data/cfg/savegames/xxxxxxxx/ (latest save)

and...

documents/SH4/data/cfg/savegames/xxxxxxxx/UPCinitial/

I changed them all to my desired settings (all the same obviously) then started SH4, went to options, gameplay settings and made sure the settings matched my edits, then hit accept changes! Voila! No more manual targeting! HTH!

Are y'all setting the difficulty in career games by using the radio on the shelf in the office?

Difficulty should be able to be changed mid-game. Otherwise, why have gameplay settings options?

The settings can be changed mid-career, but not mid-patrol or mid-mission.

Whether or not it should be, that is the way that it is.

I knew the settings could be changed by going directly to the cfg file. I wish the developers had set it up so that a player could readily switch from auto-targeting to manual and back again. I prefer auto-target, but some situations are best with manual.

Well, when you're willing to edit the save file, 100,000 ton patrols are also a possibility, I guess.

My intention wasn't to hack THAT way. Just to reset the game play options.
