It was a fair read.

It's a pity there isn't a book covering the British sub operations based in Australia during WWII. My uncle served in HMS Tiptoe out of Freemantle and I would be interested to learn more about British ops against the Japanese.

Ah, the boat in "We Dive At Dawn".

Re books, perhaps have a look for:

Fremantle's Secret Fleets. Lynne Cairns
This is one of the books in WAMM Maritime History Series. It covers the wartime history of the Fremantle submarine base. The book also covers the social impact of one of the world's most isolated ports, suddenly becoming full of service men from the US Navy, Royal Dutch Navy and the Royal Navy. The television documentary " Secret Fleets" was adapted from the events depicted in this well written and interesting publication, containing photos, maps and indexes. ISBN 0-730-96432-9

Operations of the Fremantle Sumarine Base 1942- 45 David Creed
Although only a small book this publication gives a comprehensive history of the events surrounding the base and allied submarine operations. For those who are interested in the careers of the US Navy Admirals Lockwood and Christie it pictures the events of those years quite well. ISBN 0-909-15309-4

I don't have either, but on the other hand I am not aware of anything out there more specific to RN sub ops, at least compiled in one volume anyway - there's oodles of individual boat histories on the 'net.
