Former Cabinet minister and adviser to Osborne Lord Forsyth called the decision to freeze the threshold at £325,000 "unfair" and "very disappointing", especially considering the chancellor pledged to raise it to £1 million before the election

I very much doubt a labour council in the north would ever think of a dreadful thing like this.

A council is planning the largest single displacement of poor people from London in the wake of the coalition government's controversial welfare reforms, singling out more than 700 families to be moved up to 200 miles away.

Camden council said that it would shortly be contacting 761 households, comprising 2,816 adults and children, because the coalition's benefit cap – which limits total welfare payments to £500 a week for families – will mean that they will be unable to afford their current accommodation or any other home in the south-east.

I'd be a lot happier if the cap was put in place for future claimants only.

So a couple who have never worked can stay in London if their benefits amount to less than £500, but a family with children who for some reason lose their jobs will be sent packing to the grim up north if their means tested social entitlements exceed the £500 limit.
Seems like a fair and well thought out policy.
