Here's what the turrets on my copy of the Omaha look like:
http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/...184934_417.jpg I also discovered something about tweaking gun accuracy values: it works on ships that aren't yours, but on your ships it only affects the accuracy of the first salvo. It can set ridiculous values and get the first shots to go really wide, but after the first salvo they go back to the way they were before. Also, how is accuracy affected by the CrewAI file? All I see is stuff about ranges. |

So it´s only the rear turret? Try downloading Core files pack and enable it after Omaha.

It's actually both turrets, but for some reason my picture of the bow turret got corrupted and I didn't feel like restarting the game to take another one seeing as they both look the same. At any rate, I'll try using the core files and let you know what happens.

After a fair amount of tweaking, I think I've hit the sweet spot with your cruisers. I can take out most of the escorts in the Tokyo-Saipan Convoy mission, but if I'm not very, very careful the cruiser will eat me for lunch after the destroyers soften me up a bit. I just ran the mission in the Dido and they managed to sink me after losing the entire destroyer force when the cruiser got a hit on my already-weakened engine area that ruptured my fuel tanks and left me dead in the water and a minesweeper snuck around on my starboard side while I was engaging the cruiser to port. I finally struck my colors (i.e. the game decided I had been "sunk") after losing two of my main battery turrets and taking on a lot of water from multiple below-the-waterline hits. If I had been playing career mode and had the ability to attack from a better angle (rather than going head-on into a swarm of destroyers), I'm pretty sure I could have darted in, sunk a couple of merchants, then made a break for it before taking too much damage.
One thing I did notice (and this is not a major issue at all) is that despite the amount of damage I take there isn't much cosmetic damage beyond a few holes in the hull and the occasional flak gun or spotter plane getting shot off. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the damage model of the original ship or if it's a consequence of your excellent repairable damage system interfering with the original damage model. I do know that with the old Clemson, getting sunk generally involved much of the superstructure getting shot off before I finally went under, although I've also noticed that a lot of playable ships lack any kind of damage modeling at all, which is kind of annoying. But like I said, it's not a big deal and doesn't affect gameplay at all, so I don't think it's something that really needs to be worried about. I was mostly just making an observation. Also, for anyone else that might be interested, I figured out how to get rid of the obnoxious alarm. It's in Silent Hunter 4\Data\Sound, and it's called Ship_Alarm_EXT.wav. I renamed it to something else so the game doesn't recognize it, and now I don't have to listen to it for hours on end while on patrol. |

To steve the slim
Unfortunately, that is stock damage image, it is the same with most other ships. Things usually fly off only on smaller vessels. Cdp44 |
