A little bit of history
Being a naval fan i wasn't able to give up on this opportunity, Im part of a group which reenact Soviet navy ww2 (ja, ja the enemy ) , We were asked by the Russian embassy as well as the Arctic convoy veterans society to act as honorary guard for a plaque dedicated to New Zealand sailors who took part in the convoys to Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, be it as Merchant marine sailors or RN, was an amazing day and humbling to meet men who took part in what was in my view, the most horrific convoy tasks for any sailor, the PQ and QP trips, one of them actually was in PQ17!

In this regard, some of the best books concerning these events that I have read-The Requiem for Convoy PQ-17 by Valentin Pikul and HMS Ulysses by Alistair Maclean
I think they largely realistically recreated plight of seafarers in terms of icy font Last edited by ivanov.ruslan; 05-09-16 at 05:37 AM. |
