Grey Wolves, I need your help...

Ive done the following steps:

0) Disabled all mods via JSGME
1) Uninstalled SH3 normally
2) Deleted all folders in the SilentHunterIII directory, except for the MODS folder
3) Deleted the folder SH3 in my documents
4) Rebooted
5) Installed SH3
6) Installed patch 1.4b
7) Rebooted
8) Installed GWX 2.0
9) When installing GWX 2.1, I get this message:

What I'm doing wrong?? :hmm:

You should use the GAME DISK to uninstall SH3.

Remaining MOD files are not deleted by the disk. You should manually delete them following uninstallation via disk.

A very wild guess, but have you tried to copy & pasting the MODS folder out of the install directory and then install the GWX then copy the mods folder back?

Don't know for a fact, but any remnants of your sh3 folder left (in addition to mods folder)? I'd be inclined to try moving your mods folder to backup somewhere and getting rid of the sh3 folder and anything left in it.

DELETE THEM??? ARE YOU NUTZ???

No way Im gonna delete my precious little babies, 6gb of mods... I'll just rename the folder to something else or move the folder to another place while installing... Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that the GWX 2.1 installation had problems with the "mods" folder.

It doesn't have problems with the mods folder... but as we've already explained numerous times... not all mods are compatible etc etc etc.

That is why you need a CLEAN/FRESH installation PT. I don't know how else to explain it to people.

You need a brand new installation of SH3 1.4 + GWX 2.0 + GWX 2.1. Ya can't have any other stuff in there interfering with the installation. The installer detects it and warns you... as you have seen.

It's not the Mods folder the installer detects.
It's the !Backup\data folder.
it should not exist if all mods are rolledback.
If it remains, but is empty, just delete it.

Yes. It is included.
I CANT BELIVE YOU'RE NOT SLEEPING YET!!!
And here I always believed that Kpt. Lehmann was a software professional by trade. Surgery at 4:30 AM today? Subject or Surgical Team? Unless I'm not accurately deciphering EDT and CDT here in the States, with his SubSIM time-stamp; Should he be in surgery on such short sleep?

In any case, we Yankees are well aware of how much bigger things are in Texas and that would include Kpt. Lehman's energy level and the whale of a job he and the GWX Team took on with GWX 2.1 Project. Collectively, you folks are the best! I have been waiting with great anticipation for this latest GWX release and will be downloading and installing everything tonight (hope I can focus on the installation instructions without my excitement level getting the better of me and causing me to screw something up in the process).

On behalf of the entire SH3 Community (I have yet to remove the cellophane on my purchase of SH4 I purchased at the end of 2007), to you members of the GWX Development Team, one and all, a trillion thanks for your hard work, tireless efforts and great sacrifices in delivering this wonderful gift to this global family of SubSIM enthusiasts. To paraphrase the Commander-In-Chief: "Mission Accomplished".

Stand easy GWX Development Team after a job well done!

(Damn, it took me two days to print out the GWX 2.0 manual and two months to read it from cover to cover. I just finished last week too! )

Happy Hunting Kaleuns!

Thanks mate!

That was exactly the problem. All the mods were rolledback... but still and weird enough, the !Backup folder was still

standing there with green eyes and long blond hair,
she wasn't wearing underwear (just to rhyme)

Deleted and the installation proceeded as normal.

Funny tho, the GWX 2.0 installation recognized my installation folder "F:\SilentHunterIII", but the GWX 2.1 installation didn't. It pointed to "G:\Program files\Ubisoft..." which should be the default installation folder (if I was dumb enough to do that )...

No matter, simple issue, not worth worrying about it.

Thanks, Privateer!

Why delete them ? Just move the remaining folders to another location on the same partition. Even if you have 6gb of mods, this is done in no time if you move them instead of copying.
Then you can copy the ones that you think of being still compatible back later.

Thanks. Have downloaded the update and applied as per the instructions. Everything appears to be in order. Look forward to trying it out, probably tomorrow after work.
Thats the problem with work, it interferes with my hobbies.

I followed the installation recommendations to the letter. I then re-installed the mods that were finally working again after my having previously had many problems with OLC GUI 123 on SH3/GWX 2.0.

I had deleted all the mods that I had installed into SH3/GWX 2.0 because, having already re-installed SH3/GWX 2.0 on numerous occassions in order to solve my mod problems, I was only at September 2nd 1939 on a maiden voyage out of Wilhelmshaven; outward bound for the eastern coast of England, I even hadn't past the Frisian Islands, so I had no reluctance in wiping everything out and loading the GWX 2.1 update.

I then added all the mods that I had installed in SH3/GWX 2.0.

With baited breath I started my first mission on SH3/GWX 2.1.

The old problem with OLC GUI 123 had returned: no torpedo numbers on the salvo dial. No matter, thought I, I shall solve that problem later and press on.

Then even stranger: although bound out of Wilhelmshaven for an AO grid, when I then looked at my position on the chart, I found myself off the coast of West Africa.

I tried to start the game three times and the same thing happened, so it's back to SH3/GWX 2.0 for me.

Interestingly, this West African situation continued to happen to me over a year ago with a copy of SH3 that I had bought here. Most games are of dubious origin in this land where I find myself exiled, even though one is assured that they are the genuine article.

How can all this be explained?
