Peterloo - neither of those are antivirus software - they are anti-spyware only. You need a antivirus package as well.

Well granted I haven't used it yet - and I don't have a controlled lab to really test - but Donut seems to have a PC infection(just wanted to be clear here - don't want the fella after me) and he was using avast. Now I will give it a fair shot - but that bit of info seems to bode ill for the product.

Ive been using Avasti for about 2 months pretty much works nicely, I'm sure the free antiviruses work much better than the pay to use ones.:hmm:
What ive tried in the past: Nortons 360 - Built from the ground up, annoying when gaming though. Esnet Nod32 - low resources, very good scanner. McAfee - System Hogger Then started going for the free ones available AVG - felt like it wasn't doing its job just an icon sitting on the taskbar Comodo - very good scanner but was abit buggy back then. And now Avasti. So far so good. Last edited by kiwi_2005; 12-19-08 at 11:32 PM. |

yea, ive noticed that Mcafee is a system hogger. (my FPS shouldnt be so low, I have a E8400 and a 8800gts 640 mb version and I have lag.)

I use AVG but overall I think it is high time people stopped "Depending" on Virus and Spyware detection to protect them from the ills of the net.
Responsible browsing is the theme of this age. Surfing is almost guaranteed to get you a virus. |

Not to plug any one product, but I'm liking Avast. Just put it on to replace the old AVG7.5. Nice gui, fast, seems not bad at all on sys resources.

I still havent gotten around to trying it - but I will. Seriously though - if any of you are looking to purchase an a/v software package - Kaspersky's is the way to go. Has a higher detection rate than any other, updates faster than anyone else, and is not a system hog.
For those of us who have had a hand in IT one way or the other over the years - K has proven to be safe and reliable. Still - free is better than having to pay for it!
