Top 17 ways to screw up the next Windows

http://www.gamersworldbd.com/2008/07...windows-7.html

Link found at simHQ.com.

I read that the next windows under developement so far is using the same Kernel like Vista. Which makes the new Windows a no-go-zone for me as well. Incompetent dilletantic (and deaf) designers at work, it seems.

How stupid do they think people are?

now the top 12 list of how it should be done:

stable
reliable
safe
fast
as small as possible
specs as low as possible (does MS know that "low" means the opposite of "high"?)
no eyecandy at the cost of increasing specs
no penetrative "anti piracy" digital control DMR wonder super fantasy routines
no premature release
no release of features that do not work trustworthy
no splitting up into half a dozen of different versions
compatible

In other words: KEEP IT SIMPLE.

an OS is not the star of computer activity, it is not more than the empty screen on which the movie/the star is being projected. the less oyu see of an OS, and the less ressources it consumes, the better. You go into a cinema to see the movie - not to admire the white screen. the most noble duty of the white empty screen is to be white, and empty.

I am a realist, and so I don't hold my breath for Microsoft learning these simple lessons.

ROFL (Think I liked #13 the best)

Windows 7 is supposed to use an "improved" version of the NT 6.0 kernel we all hate, but I bet it's going to be twice as buggy...

Some info on windows 7:

Quote:
"At its core, the kernel and the components that make up the very core of the operating system, actually it’s pretty streamlined. It's still bigger than I'd like it to be but we've taken a shot recently at really stripping out all of the layers above and making sure that we have a very clean architectural layer."

I won't believe what Microsoft might or might not say, at least for the foreseeable future

Re-quoted in total for truth. Agree 100%.

The OS should not be the reason why I should need to install a $350 video card and 4 gigs of RAM. PERIOD.

I loved the windows pirated edition!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It seems that Apple has learnt to listen to it's customers and with it's new OS it will be leaner, meaner and take up a samller footprint thant the previous OS.

I agree with your sentiment, but how can we agree (or not) with what they might NOT say?:hmm:

Well, I like the 4 gigs of RAM part, maybe the chip market might pick up again. I miss my fat x-mas bonus.

Heh... Wasn't it one guy called Bill Gates who said "640K ought to be enough for anybody"(1981)

Comparing what we had then and what we have now I'm quite happy he didn't take that as a guideline.

For the moment 99% of the applications I use under windows xp are freeware open source so I would have no problem jumping over *nix. The other 2 programs (2 multimedia encyclopedias) are windows specific and they work without problems in virtualised windows 98 so one less problem to deal with.
What really makes me stay for the moment in xp is the ability to run Orbiter and Dangerous Waters.
The day DW and Orbiter will work with *nix is the day I ditch XP from my pc forever.
