Default Saved game not loading (crashes program)

Does anyone have any experience with a saved game suddenly crashing the program when trying to load it? I am almost done with a campaign, and now I can't get it to load. Any help is appreciated.

It does happen.
best to be careful on saves. Save on the surface, none or few contacts, save as a new name each time
Sometime you can get away with a save in conditions other than those above.

do you have any previous backups? try one of those.

I have a tendency to do as save (Example: "head for port"), run for 2hrs of game time, then save as "head for port BU" just to be safe, especially after a particularly good Kill.

The save files get very complicated. If you overwrite too many saves, the files become corrupted. CTD when loading is one of the symptoms. I do a master save while in the office. I'll call it for instance, "fireftr." Then save soon after starting a patrol and add a number to the end. For instance, "fireftr1." Then save frequently after that, changing the number as needed.

One thing that sometimes works is to load a different save game, wait for that to load and stabilize, then hit the escape key and load the save that keeps crashing. Doesn't always work, but sometimes having the basic data already in memory from a different save game allows the unstable one to load correctly.
