Default SCU and what it changes?

What exactly does SCU do?

Sets sensors specific for each platform which it enables?

Set tubes and potential weapon loads for each platform which it enables?

Does SCU also alter top speeds and crush depths for the platforms which enables? What about sonar wash out and towed array failure speeds? And the speed cavitation chart? If it changes these how is a player suppose to now what the parameters are?

Thanks.

SCU is a utility that allows you to make other submarines playable. And yes, their acoustic, sensor specifics, and mast configurations are set properly. The Russian subs you make playable usually use the Akula interface. The older American subs like Thresher/Permit Class and Sturgeon use the 688(I) interface.

Yes, it changes all those characteristics where appropriate.

Is there anyway to know such critical items as crush depth and cavitation values?

I am thinking that it would be hard to play an SCU platform effectively without that at hand. What did everyone do before they moved onto DW?

Thanks.

There is a database editor for SC out there somewhere. Once you learn how to use it you can check details such as crush depth. The other way is to check historical values where available - or test a boat out yourself - navies call it 'training'.

Download the full version of SCX from Bill's site. SCU is included in the second part of the package (with full 'readme').

Thanks a lot! Already found it and just installed it. I even dowloaded some campaigns (after installing SCX II and SCX IIc) but some campaigns do miss the playable subs. Does anybody know what to do or what I might have done wrong?

You havent done anything wrong, its more than likely just the way the mission/campaign has been set up. ie to only use certain platforms etc
