2 friends/relatives from Virginia visited us last weekend. They got a hire car and he had to deal with a stick-shift and the driver's seat on the right, plus he is left-handed and has a chronic stiff neck.

We had lunch at the Henry VIII inn at Hever

(opposite the churchyard where Anne Boleyn's dad is buried)

...and saw this Mustang outside nearby Chiddingstone church (maybe the vicar's)

Nice to see the North get the heatwave as well.

And another week of it to come, there would have been a time when Northerns would flee to Scotland to cool off. Wonder if Scotland has closed the border to them?

Spot of over time today in the heat. Glad that is over now.

Weather spokes persons are boasting we are going to thrash the summer of 1976 with a scorcher 2018. They are saying its going to remain high though July August and September! I have already noticed tempers are on the rise due to lack of sleep. And the water companies have already started hose pipe bans, next up a shortage of water.

It's been hot to a scorcher down here in southern UK and no sign of a let up.

Weighing up job opportunities

Just got told today my employer is insolvent !!!!!!

Result; 6 -8 weeks before redundancy pay, as this all has to be claimed thru the Gov.

Lengthy claims for any extra rights, i.e lieu of notice, holiday, weeks worked unpaid, etc.

Many of you chaps have prolly been thru this, for those that haven't, I hope you never have to.

My whole working life has been dedicated to my trade, get an apprenticeship they said... It will stand you in good stead, they said !!!

Now I'm here at 63 years, no vacancies, ( my trade is a real niche market ) not much chance to retrain as a bus driver never mind any in print.

K sorry for the glumness, and for the invisibility the last few weeks/months, Still have to break this to Mrs Fube.........

One saving grace, house is paid for, no mill stone round my neck in that regard.

Apologies again chaps, just needed to vent somewhere

Prolly have to close my inet, so if Neil (if you're looking ) can keep my account open it would be most appreciated.

See you all in the near future I hope, thanks for your friendship over the years.

Best wishes, love and regards.

@Fubar2Niner

Sorry to hear of your troubles Mate. That's a tough break. Many of us have been through similar problems. In 2009 I lost a very good job for the same reason. We had relocated for me to take this job and things were good for four years. Then because of the economic downturn in the USA suddenly we were done. I was angry and depressed for a while but that all passes eventually. I would like to tell you to stay positive and don't give up. Will be hoping for the best for you.

@Fubar2Niner: I'm sorry to hear that. There are a great many of us in the same boat. I'm not criticizing you for talking about it, sometimes that is the best therapy. I'm just saying you're not alone. I hate to praise the government, but if it wasn't for the VA I would likely still be homeless after twelve years, or more likely dead and gone.

It's good you have the house. One less thing to worry about is always a good thing. I hope you manage to hang onto the 'net, as it's good to communicate with like-minded people.

Best of luck in the coming times.

Everyone has said the same thing. Hang in there Fubes. Things have a way of coming around when you least expect it. I would think if someone like you has a trade behind them, It would be a valuable commodity as experience counts for a lot.

I hope you stay in touch and remain with Subsim.

Sending positive vibes your way.

Stay strong Fubes.

Sorry to learn of this Martin and whilst not having a similar personal experience I do know others who have.

Stay positive my friend and hopefully as this door shuts another will open.

Your account/standing is quite safe.

Been down that road twice, first time the union screwed us out of more money with their lies about redundancy payout. The second the company lost its contract and they closed that part of it down.

The only thing I can say to you is they will make you jump though hoops if you sign on. Back in 2015 when i was last out of work the job centre made me suffer from very bad depression which i'm still not fully over and probably will never be.

So I know a bit what you are facing, being 63 years old is the worst case for you and all i can say is start the cut backs now big time. If you do sign on its not going to be nice under the new and tougher system. I wish you all the luck and hopefully something will come along.

If you have to close your Internet join a library that has Internet. Granted like my one you will only probably get one hour free a day but that's better than nothing.
