Deck guns & depth charges?

I thought at one point I was able to hit the depth charge racks on a DD with my deck gun after he passed me, he sank. Is that supposed to be possible? I've tried to shoot out searchlights and other things, but no similar success either.

It might be possible but not sure if it is/was a stock behavior, or a mod behavior. Someone more familiar with the different mods might recall if damage locations on various targets reflected this possibility and/or were actually modified to allow this.

I've played TMO and could shoot the depth charge racks off escorts, but no sinking from that alone, but as I recall it did stop them from dropping further charges on me after I dived.
