Default Cities XL 2011...

Downloading right now

Always been a fan of the Sim City series. This one is not Sim City but looks pretty cool. I'll give some impressions later.

Would be much appreciated. Considering it as well, but as far as I can tell, if I'm to believe the negative feedback, it's still not much more than a bugridden mess. Basically an update/expansion to the previous title, sharing it's technical troubles.

The first Sim City was the only one I could ever get into. I frankly find all the sequels silly, both graphics- and atmosphere-wise. Apparently it's just me, since everyone else seem to love them, but I just can't get into them. They all just seem to be 30% good game and 70% unneccessary bells and whistles.

Well here is my first impressions.

Damn thing runs frustratingly slow. Yes I have an 'older' machine and a mid range video card.

I tried setting the graphics in the game down to mins but there is still this delay whenever you select a function.

Click build a road .. wait 2, 3, 4, Click economy overview.. wait 2, 3, 4.

Its madening and ruins what otherwise would be an awsome game.

I went through all the tutorials which were quite well done built a few city starts but I understand the bugs pop up in the end game.

It would be alot more fun if I had more machine I guess.

Same here. Played the original to death. Never really got into the sequels.

Might I ask what the specs are? From what I've seen the performance/lag is a rather common issue, not entirely sure the delay is a result of hardware falling short. Seems more like it's just a clunky engine.

Specs are good enough to run games like Silent Hunter 5 but that evidently is not the issue. It turns out it is a 'steam' issue.

I hope they get it fixed because as it is now it will make you pull our hair out.

Read that it might help to disable core0 if you have multicore CPU (task manager>set affinity). Game isn't capable of using more than 1 core anyway (aparently), which is probably why it runs like crap to begin with.

I actually thought about and tried that. It seemed to make overall performance worse and did not affect the UI lag.

Anyhow I think by now they are aware of the issue.

Serves me right for getting something 'on release'. I'll never learn.

Bah, depends on what it is. Someone has to volunteer as guinea pig, right?

Not all is lost, per se. Let's see what the first round of patching brings.

All this mentioning of Sim City has got me humming the Sim City 2000 music. Ah the memories.

Seems it's track 8 of the soundtrack.

"du dih du du duuh duu duu du dih du du duuh duu duu"

Yep, still have SC 3000 on my computer somewhere. a very good game. Tho near the end, seems every cityI create in the game no matter how good it was, had a mass extinction, and everyone leaves.

Seems Maxis abandoned SC2000, what that means, who knows.

Anyway, even after the laggy buggy mess that was SC4, it's still my fav and still gets played (deluxe ed).

My cities always had the same problem, though they were generally related to "natural" disasters.

There was a patch pushed on steam tonight. A pretty small one.

Program runs much better now.

A quick fix considering.

I dont have any BIG citys yet, in fact I blew away my biggest city tonight to start over. City is called Hewston and its all about the oil

Still getting used to the intracity trade aspect.
