Met office has issued a thunder storm warning here...I will only believe that when i see it. Today was another scorcher above what those jokers tell us at the Met office.

Have not slept well the last nights, worst drought ever now in Germany. It rained once in two months here, and temperatures are by now getting above 35 degrees Celsius, around 95 Fahrenheit, while they do not get below 25 degrees Celsius or 77 Fahrenheit at night any more.
We live in a forested area, and there are some ponds and lakes, but there are now a lot of dead birds.

Problem is now the harvest of grain like wheat, rye and all that.. the EU has decided to come up for the damage financially, but you can't eat money and the rising temperatures show a trend. Seems the weather is getting more extreme, we also get tornados now

Default Can you id. this aircraft?

This is a quick sketch (blown up somewhat) of a plane which crossed our skies yesterday, heading in the direction of Coningsby.

It had 2 big noisy radial engines (the sound had me running outside) and looked like a 1930s airliner. It had a hump-backed look, rather like a Caudron 'Simoun' shape but was not a Caudron of any kind... if anything, it looked more like an 'Electra' but for the single broad tailfin. I'm pretty sure it's not a Boeing 247 either, because of the nose shape, but it might have been.

It was a cream colour overall with (I think) a narrow diagonal red band at the rear of the fuselage. I'm going to look at other books but does anyone know of a preserved airliner like this over here?

^Any air shows/museum flights in the area this weekend?

I guess the DC-3 is right out. The humpback look wouldn't fit that. Curtiss-Wright AT-9 is no airliner and the nose is a bit off from what you drew there but who knows. The Blenheim which is flying this weekend has a distinct and different nose and not really a hunchback.

Highly likely, the Anson is a regular visitor to Coningsby.

Yes, a civilianised Anson would fit the shape completely... I'll look into it

Edit: Thanks, guys... that must've been it. I've never seen it before so never even crossed my mind. The 'cream' colour might have been the late afternoon sun plus a lot of yellow dust in the air (we had a combine harvester working just the other side of the hedge yesterday). The red fuselage band was there and the hump-back shape. Yes, That was it

I think it's just a bit of scaremongering.

When we had a real downpour about six o'clock (before the thunder and lightning) my mad wife went out and danced naked in the garden. When she finally came in she said she felt cleansed and uplifted. I only managed to get a photo from the knees down

It's now past midnight and there've been no more storms. I think that map was probably a bit of fakery dreamed up just to scare people on Facebook

Once again the stupid Met Office got my area wrong, they said thunder storms and heavy rain all day. And all I got was bit of rumbling in the distance and very light rain that failed to fill a egg cup half way! Hey Met Office you are a joke..
