Default My sub won't follow its course

Hi guys,
OK, so I plot a course. I fine tune it then tell my sub to return to course... BUT, when it comes to a turn, my sub just keeps on going straight.
What am I doing wrong here??? How do I resolve this issue???

Thanks

Did you try hitting the "return to course" button? If you've hit the rudder button since setting the course, it will forget. And if you load from a save, it will often have to be returned to course. It also is not very good at cornering, kind of an issue with all boats, and will generally overshoot

Is the problem that it doesn't turn at all, or that it overshoots the waypoint where it should turn?

It overshoots but not always. Only sometimes. Sometimes it will follow the course but other times it won't. Maybe about 1/2 the time or so.
What I do is click that, return to course, button multiple times, not just once and that usually resolves the problem.
It's just a pain that I have to click that button all the time.
I thought there might be a 'fix' of some kind around here.

I think it turns off if you change any setting like change speed or move the heading by clicking the compass, then you have to redo the command to resume course.

its not a problem if you don't touch any other controls after setting it

Yes. If you change rudder position, or heading, or reload from a save, the crew 'forgets'. You can change speed or dive/surface, though.

I've forgotten after loading a game, and noticed that we seemed to be a bit off course. Other than that, I've never had a problem.

there are a lot of little quirks and things with this game that are damn frustrating and we forget about them after a while so its not easy to warn new members of all of them.

you will also have some times when the game gets stuck in a loop telling you something like thermal layer or crew stay on deck under water, crew wont go on deck when surfaced, o2 wont refresh when surfaced, and several similar little oddities like the weather wont change.

if you come across these just save and reload the game and it fixes it.

you will also discover the game cheats and a destroyer will know your exact undiscovered position and race in right on top of you stopping on a dime to drop depth charges from as far as 8000m away. the ships guns are unrealistically "sniper" accurate and hit you with more regularity then todays laser guided smart bombs.

Had this happen already. Didn't understand it at all, so I fired 4 torps at it coming which missed, so I went toe to toe and finely sunk it with my deck gun. It rammed me 3 times and I took on a lot of damage and a lot of injuries with the crew but, I won that battle.

Question is, is SH 3 or SH 5 any better???

not really, in fact sh3 files are all over inside sh4 and sh4 files are all over inside sh5, they just keep adding files on top of each other and altering the old files for reuse with the next game so the game engine changes but I would say 25%-30% of the files are still left behind unused by the next game. that's where we have tga AND dds files, wav files AND ogg files, because they reused as much as they could from the last game to make the next one. I bet there are 500mb of game files the game doesn't need or use because they are just "leftovers" from the reuse of the older game version file in mass.

the best way to describe it is they didn't make a new game from scratch, they just recreated the game into something new by using a better game engine and tweaking the files to use different content. I would bet sh3 also contains large chunks of files from the sh2 game. you see this when you are modding and you find two of the same files where one is used and the other isn't, this is because (for example) in sh3 maybe it used the "color blue.tga" file but in sh4 they changed the game engine so now it needs a "color blue.dds" file it uses, yet the old file was never removed even though it was replaced by another file. there seamed to be no thought given to cleaning things up and removing any and all unused files in the game. I suspect this is because with sh4 and sh5, they stopped development before the game was even finished

Got it. Makes sense to me.

Oh, one more thing. I noticed that the knots gauge is off a little. Did anybody fix this?

Thanks

The one I've always loved is when the escorts don't know where you are and don't find you, but somehow magically look "at random" exactly where you're hiding. I attack. They come to my location. I slip away and manage to work my way off into the distance. Rather than probe around where I was they sort of probe around right where I'm headed.

It doesn't happen every time, but often enough to be annoying.

those things change based on the resolution you are using and the size of your monitor but they are all off a little, the compass, speed, and depth.

I tried fixing it once but then realized its a lot of damn work and what works for you but would make things worse for someone else so its not a mod you can share since its tailored to your monitors resolution
