Default more questions on my first patrol

Ok so I left kiel. Probably will never do that again. Going through the kiel canal and was only able to use 4x time compression. Took forever. Is this correct that's the fastest I can use through there also I was wondering can I refit at my bases with fuel and torpedos. I was also wondering to end my patrol do I just go back to kiel and a pop up screen will ask me if I want to finish my patrol or do I have to hit esc and end it like that

If you've installed SH3 Commander you can adjust time compression settings at your discretion so it's virtually possible to travel through the canal in a few seconds.
Yes, you can have your boat refitted at any friendly port but in the game it's not really realistic and if you dock, your current patrol will technically be over as if you returned to your home base.
You can end your patrol any time if you press Esc, click on Exit Patrol then Return to base unless you're submerged or being hunted by escorts. Besides, you can plot a course back to your home and if you're within 25 km, press Esc, click on Exit Patrol then Dock at [name of the port]. (In stock game, you get a reward of 100 renown this way).

... if you are lucky enough to safely dodge all the other traffic in the canal.

Check your other thread. You need to apply some config file corrections to SH3 Commander to make GWX 3 work:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=216166

But this may also happen if you have the Black Sea or Indian Ocean campaign sub-mod enabled last In JSGME. You only need those when you are actually operating there in those regions. It has all the other scripted units in the rest of the world removed to reduce system loading. To transit yourself to the Indian Ocean, you would need to enable the Merged Campaign sub-mod. (There is was no transit route for the Uboats to the Black Sea over water. You just start your carreer there from the beginning.) If you will be operating in the Atlantic or Mediteranean region only then you do not need any GWX campaign sub-mod enabled.
