Mission editor

I have made up a good multiplayer mission to use on the lan with my brother but i have a problem with the Submarine selection. I want to use a German U-Boat so naturaly i shall insert that sub into the mission and my brother wants to use an American Fleet voat so i insert that intot he game so once i have finished of and validate it and save it. I go into the game and start up the server but of course i cant actualy go the German submarine. Are there files that must be edited to allow me to go the U-Boat?
