my own fav strategy, and it works 99% of the time is to get ahead of the convoy (if you are behind it, this is known as an end around attack) and position yourself to within 3k yards of the projected track of the convoy; go down as deep as you can, I usually go down to 300 feet, depending on sub.

Then crawl in at 1/3 until lead escort is approaching. Go silent and wait for lead escort to pass. I then come straight up to periscope depth, scope still down, up scope and then pick two targets, I usually pick one far away (obviously within range!) and fire two tubes. Then find a closer one, wait till I guess other torps are closer to their target and fire two at second target. I usually manage to get torps to hit within 5 secs of each other on the targets. As soon as second firing is under way, get back down deep and change direction towards lead escort, remove silent running when deep so you can reload tubes. Heading towards lead escort means that when he turns and runs in, you pass beneath him before he gets to where he 'thinks' you are. Always works for me. You can always go port or starboard at 90 degrees, obviously up to you. I find there is a bit of a greater chance of being detected if you run off to the side.

new depth charges mod resets depth charges to reflect reality. To kill a sub, a depth change has to be quite close to the target. A sub can be shaken by near misses but they should not be fatal. This mod means that the depth charges can go off as before but do no damage. Which means you have a better chance of evading the attack. The U534, (located on Merseyside) was sunk by a depth charge that went off directly beneath it, (see image) all the charge did was cause stress fractures and buckling in hull, the water did the rest and flooded the sub, the process was such that the entire crew managed to abandon ship before it sank. The depth of the water also has a nullifying effect on the initial explosion, so the closer to the target, the more deadly. The depth charge that hit U534 hit the deck, rolled along and then fell off, as it passed the sub it detonated only a few meter or so below

I notice that destroyers are a bit 'thick' early on but by the time I am in late 43/44 they can gt a bit 'crafty'. The Japs were not thick in reality but neither were sub drivers.

Dont play at a setting too hard, it proves nothing except that you have suicidal tendencies.

I hate lots of images of the U534 and artifacts taken from the sub. If anyone is all that interested its here:

Most groups have a lead escort and flanks, unless a large group. Main thing is not to get pegged by sonar so you want to stay narrow to the nearest escort. If daylight, I come in from the front between the lead and flank escort. I come straight from the front about 600 to the side of the lead escort and I slowly helm my nose towards him as he passes. This usually gives you a close shot at the group and I generally shoot with some angle.

If you come in from the flank doing a typical 90 degree attack, often your flank becomes exposed in the sonar zone and you'll get pinged.

Remember weather conditions play a great role, sometimes it's best to track more so later war when escorts become better. Dead calm water is a sure way to get heard.

I also attack a lot at night on the surface. I'll shoot a few M14's from several 1000 yards from near the flank front and then take off. Escorts will track and search from where torps spawned, so if you take off, they ..won't see you and search your last position, but you'll be gone. You can then attack the exposed flank where the escorts left. Only problem is when escorts have radar they may come for you, but you can use this to your advantage. Let radar pick you up at night and let them come. Like be in the front....When they get about 5000 yards, dive and flank speed to a an attack point and go silent when escorts are about 3000 yards away. This should put you far enough out of their search area and expose a flank. for attack.

Remember to attack when conditions best favor you. If a large convoy, dive deep enough and don't come up until the lead escort passes. If you can attack in the middle of a large convoy, you can shoot bow and stern torps and cause a lot of havoc and often use the remaining ships as blockers

Expect most the time to get attacked after you attack. RFB is rather easy to evade.

Really, really easy way to attack a convoy is from head on. Charge at them at full flank speed, then when you get close enough for a visual or at under 10nm dive as deep as you can and go as quiet as you can. Cruise towards the convoy dead silent and the escorts wont know your there. If possible get under a thermal layer, as it scatters sonar and machine noises.

Then once your sound guy lets you know you past the front escort pop up to periscope depth and let rip. Expend all torps in the tubes, and turn to the same course as the convoy. Once your in between the convoy ships the escorts cant really find you due to all the other ship noises, but just be aware of Sonar pings and try to keep yourself near convoy ships to use them as cover.

If you get "pinged" go under a convoy ship and tag along with it. The AI cannot work out wtf you are doing when you sit under another ship.

Happy hunting.

Not that I'm aware of - mind you I haven't looked hard. I guess if someone's converted the SACF to PDF then there's no reason this can't be.

How about printing it yourself with a simulated printer of PDFcreator that makes a PDF file:

"Dont play at a setting too hard, it proves nothing except that you have suicidal tendencies"

A good group by the way ... they have great jams.

Sit 2 grand off the track at a 45 degree angle. Quiet all stop. Lead escort passes all ahead flank after he is away 1000 yards. Head for the convoy or capital ships. Fire within 1000 yards of them ... farthest targets first ... dive to suicide depth and go quiet again and wait for sounds in the water.

It's a thrill ride you can never get at Disney.
