Default Current TMO + RSRD versions

Howdy fellas. I'm setting up a new computer and am in the process of downloading SH4 from Steam. What's the latest versions of TMO and RSRD and are there any necessary patches?

I greatly appreciate it.

That mostly depends on what you like.

There are so many Mods around its hard to give advice, some like Mod A, others B yet others like A and B.

Its all a matter of personal preference really.

But make sure you read up on things, either here in the forum or in the README's which are included in the Mod's themselves.

Yeah I understand that. And greatly appreciate yer help. I've always used TMO and RSRD in the past. The only thing I really don't like about TMO is that the Japanese tin cans are basically US/UK tin cans from the Atlantic. I can't seem to find the post from a few years ago about dumb'n down the AI a bit.

You could go into the download section and search for the easier AI mod for TMO 2.5.

Either that or remove the Sim.cfg file from [Data]/ [CFG] folder.
Removing that file from TMO will leave the stock version in its place and should work... If it doesn't put it back.

Why dumb them down ... the challenge is wonderful?

It's not so much dumb'n down the AI as it is making it where they can't see me when I'm under water, 10+ miles away, on a moonless night, with heavy waves, in fog, the engines off and silent running.

Oooh.. Here I thought you wanted easier AI, my bad.
You have a choice either go fiddle in the AI-Sensor.dat or the Sim.cfg file.

For the .dat file you'll need a tool called Silent 3ditor which can be found here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=219029 (Scroll down and you'll find it).

As per Sniper297 instructions these values need to be changed:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=112
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=113

If you're going to alter the Sim.cfg file (which is easiest) open it with notepad or similar tool and as per neilbryne instructions change these values.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=143

Comparing files can be difficult and tedious but someone made a tool for that too.. its called Winmerge and can be found here:
www.winmerge.org
What it does is quite simple, once a file is opened this tool compares them and show you where the differences are, depending on which file you wan to use change the value of the other. It even makes a copy of the original file for you

You forgot to include, "in heavy rain".
Sorry, but that's funny.

That is some serious sight, tho...

I'm not sure what you all are running but I can use TMO+RSRD and get within 800 yards and not be seen. Normally within 1000 yards they are going to hear me well enough underwater. On moonless night I have been 800 yards from DD's and not been seen. It's a thrill ride.

You should add the Harder escorts that comes with TMO.

What ever you may think none of the TMO escorts are as hard as running Operation Monsun and coming up against British escorts. Hands down that mod has the hardest escorts of all.

I love the challenge that TMO and RFB have with RSRD but their escorts are easy compared to Operation Monsun. The longest depth charge attack I have ever ran into was in Operation Monsun ... it went about 36 hours straight. In TMO I have never had an attack go more than about 5 hours. The Japanese have little in the way of good ASW. They also did not have Hedgehogs like the British and Americans ... I hate those things.
