Good pick on Laura Nyro. I was just thinking about her earlier in the week... Nyro is shamefully overlooked when it comes to lists of influential songwriters. Another songwriter she brings to mind is Janis Ian, who had some success starting in the 1960s and is still around today. Don't take my word for how great an influence Janis Ian was: here's a guy named Lenny to lay it all out... This song by Ian is particularly touching: The clip of Janis Ian with Leonard Bernstein is from a 1967 TV special hosted by Bernstein discussing the then Pop/Rock music world. Many artists were either cited, performed, or were interviewed for the program; it stands as an interesting document and a rather fair-minded, for its time, attempt to bridge the gap between those damned kids and their square elders. Having Bernstein to analyze and explain the actual artistry of the music is a huge plus; here is a link to the entire show; the quality is low res, but it is interesting, none the less; a heads up -- the ads are apparently cut from the tap, so there will be blank parts you may want to fast forward through: <O>

^Beautiful... thanks for that; I don't know how I missed Janis Ian when I was listening to Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell all those years ago
Meanwhile...

Thanks CW. I'm no Musician - Student/Teacher/Professor/Whatever, but I know what I like and that's good enough for me. A bit of everything really. Certain music for certain moods. Like Eich... said I don't know if guys listen to the stuff I post, but I try to keep it interesting with a nice clip to go with the song.

Not really music, but great comedy ...
Elvis said that out of all the people that impersonated him Andy Kaufman was the best. Elvis starts at the 1:44 mark
