Time Compression Crash to Desktop
Hello, gents.
I know this is a problem encountered before, but I could not find a solution based on a quick search of these forums and elsewhere. I have repatedly encountered a crash to desktop recently when using the time compression x8 or higher. It could be a mod I installed but the game worked well before using the same mods. Here is the list of the ones I currently have installed via JGME: GWX - Alternative Flotillas GWX - Axis Mediterranean Aircraft Skins GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects GWX - Integrated Orders GWX - Open Hatch Mod GWX - Merged Campaign GWX - Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas STzSinkingShipFix 2.1 GWX Torpedo Alarm Mod GWX - No Medals on Crew GWX - VIIC41 Player Sub GWX - 16km Atmosphere torpedo trail and wake fix depth charge noise - Rev A - GWX |

My advice would be to disable a single mod. run SHIII, advance to greater than 8x time compression and see if it crashes.
If it DOES crash, you can re-enable that mod, and disable the next one on the list. repeat the process until your time compression issue goes away and you have then discovered which mod was causing it. also...are you using SHIII Commander to launch SHIII? if yes, have you tinkered with the time compression settings in anyway? if you have i would restore them all to default settings lastly, My money is on the 16KM atmosphere or the Open Hatch mod being one of the culprits causing this crash, so i would try time acceleration with one of those mods disabled first. My SHIII runs fine with those mods enabled, however, there have been times when one or the other didnt get along with some of the other mods on the list and began causing issues. good luck

Thank you for the ideas Golden Rivet. I found out that it occurs on save files without time compression as well. Really odd thing to happen but I will try to disable some mods and maybe find out what is causing this CTD. Hopefully it is fixable because I like to save once and awhile.

It is an Acer Aspire V 15 laptop. Specs as follows: CPU: Intel Core -5-6200U 2.3GHz Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 520, 4157 MB Resolution: 1366x768 RAM: 8 GB DDR3 Memory OS: Windows 10 64-bit I have a more capable PC as well, but it is in the shop right now. I usually use the laptop to play older games. I am running Silent Hunter 3 as an administrator and in compatibility mode for Windows 7. I think the problem may well be a mod, but I am still ruling that out. To put things in perspective, I have been trying to play the single mission 'XXI' and a bunch of weird stuff happens with a save game in that mission. Aside from the crash to desktop occuring, my submarine suddenly becomes stealthier, the task force I am shadowing sometimes splits up and changes course in wierd and wonderful ways and if I do manage to sink the fleet carriers or the escort carrier, the objectives don't update. To my experience with SH3 and SH5, using TC at x500 and more - when possible and not disabled by a mod - will result in CTD if there is traffic nearby (even if you don't see it on the map). Also in ports with heavy traffic going over x64 is liable to crash the game, and it has nothing to do with your computer's power.
But carry out the suggestion given above, that's the best way to isolate a single mod as a culprit IMO. |

this has been known to corrupt save games since the release of SHIII

I heard of this happening but was hoping that was not the case. I am playing a single mission which is short, but I like to save regardless. Often it does not affect my save game, but in this case, it must be the reason as I started with all mods disabled via JSGME, so I doubt there was a mod conflict. Quite the terrible bug to leave in the game unpatched but no use crying over a bug that is over ten years old. Unfortunately, there is no way to save on that particular mission without being submerged or near a large group of ships. Last edited by Maphisto86; 06-18-18 at 11:25 PM. |

Hi M
Are the single missions designed to be saved or are they to be played in 1 gaming session? Peter
