D-day?
Anyone ever tried to head into normandy and score some major kills on Dday? I was leaving the Caribbean after a month long patrol scoring about 30k tons and we were all sitting off the beach of Saint Martin catching some sun when I got the message from BDU about Dday. I didn't make it back to France until June 13. And I barely made it back to Lorient losing 2 Petty Officers to strafe runs by Liberators. All my guns were out of Ammo and only about 7 torps left but I really wanted to head north just to see if anything of the Invasion Armada might still be there. But before I started back South to Lorient where I'm stationed I was constantly being harrassed by Destroyers and planes, it was so annoying. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it back because my boat was in real bad shape.
Anyways, I could always restart the patrol and just make sure I get to Normandy before the invasion gets there (if it's worth it). What do you guys think? Is it worth sacrificing the 30k tons I got? I'm at 283k tons before it so not exactly a big deal..... |

I created a career specifically to head out and lay in waiting for D-Day.
I can guarantee you, you might sink a couple of ships... But you'll be sent to the bottom with all hands lost. Period.

Yeah not even the Type XXI can help save you on D-Day. This as a go at your own risk type deal.

So I arrived on June 6 around 1000 to Normandy ready to kamikaze it and all I see is an empty bay. I sailed around surfaced for the next 8 hours or so and Nada. What gives? I remember once in GWX about receiving a message about meeting up with the Bismarck or Tirpitz to fight with them and when I went to meet them there was nothing; so this doesn't really surprise me. It's just irritating to even receive these messages telling you to participate when there's nothing in the related area of operations. Am I missing a mod or something?

There should be ships there. If you look in the mission editor it shows a lot of ships off the normandy coast 6th june.

If you're using GWX try getting there around 2300 hrs on June 5th, then wait it out til around 0600
Since you arrived late to the party it may have been a spawning issue

To the best of my knowledge... NYGM doesn't simulate D-Day

GWX does and it's mostly a waste but pretty cool to go see it.
Same with the Forts GWX has. Only a fool would go there. But You just have to do it because they are there. |
