SMS A19 (Kaiserliche Marine) The A1-class torpedo boat was shelled and sunk in the North Sea off the coast of Belgium by Royal Navy destroyers with the loss of nineteen of her crew.
Australian Transport (United Kingdom) The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Strait of Sicily (40 nautical miles (74 km)) west north west of Maritimo Island, Italy (38°08′N 11°10′E) by SM UC-27 ( Kaiserliche Marine) with the loss of a crew member.

1915 English RAF pilot Arthur Spurling and observer George Bell, in DH.0 D3056, are credited with shooting down five Fokker D.VIIs. victories 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 for both. These are also the last aerial victories for both. Arthur Rowe Spurling will survive the war and retire to Bermuda, rejoin the RAF for World War 2 and coordinating trans-atlantic transportation, and live until 1984. George Stanley Bell, AKA George William Bell, appears to have joined the Army in 1914 under an assumed name, deserted and joined the RFC in 1915 under another assumed name. If the records are correct this big fight took place on his 21st birthday. Bell will also survive the war and live until 1960.

German ace Gerhard Fieseler, with Jasta 25 over the Macedonian Front, shoots down a SPAD two-seater for victory number 13. 2nd Sgts C. Cooran and R. Kakiru, Serbian Escadrille 524, are both killed.

German naval ace Bertram Heinrich, in an Albatros D.V, shoots down a DH.4 for victory number 13.

Flavia (United Kingdom) The passenger ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean 30 nautical miles (56 km) north west by west of Tory Island, County Donegal (55°23′N 9°40′W) by SM U-107 ( Kaiserliche Marine) with the loss of one life.
Graciosa (Portugal) The four-masted barque was shelled and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean north west of Scotland (59°06′N 5°00′W) by SM U-67 and SM U-90 (both Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.
Hollandia (Netherlands) The fishing vessel was scuttled in the North Sea off the coast of Norfolk, United Kingdom by SM UB-111 ( Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.
Lisbonense (Portugal) The cargo ship struck a floating object and sank in the Mediterranean Sea 40 nautical miles (74 km) off the Sisargas Islands, Spain. Fourteen crew were rescued.
Majoor Thompson (Netherlands) The fishing vessel was scuttled in the North Sea off the coast of Norfolk by SM UB-111 ( Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.

Ship Losses:

Ant Cassar (United Kingdom) The cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean 30 nautical miles (56 km) north north west of Strumble Head, Cornwall (52°25′N 5°45′W) by SM UB-118 ( Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.
Bergsdalen (Norway) The cargo ship was sunk in the Atlantic Ocean (45°10′N 55°10′W) by SM U-117 ( Kaiserliche Marine) with the loss of a crew member.
Gloria (Portugal) The schooner was scuttled in the Atlantic Ocean 30 nautical miles (56 km) off Porto Santo Island, Madeira (33°24′N 16°28′W) by SM U-157 ( Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.
Pampa (France) The troopship was sunk in the Mediterranean Sea 84 nautical miles (156 km) east of Valletta, Malta by SM UC-22 ( Kaiserliche Marine) with the loss of 117 lives.

0630 Welsh RAF ace pilot Herbert Beddow and Canadian ace observer Thomas Birmingham, flying Bristol F.2b D7998, shoot down a Fokker D.VII. Victory number 8 for Beddow; number 6 for Birmingham.

0734 German pilot Martin Johns, with Jasta 63, shoots down a DH.9 for victory number 5.

0740 German ace Hans-Georg von der Marwitz, with Jasta 30, shoots down a Sopwith Camel for victory number 10.

0805 German ace Hermann Frommhertz, with Jasta 27, shoots down Bristol F.2b E2514 for victory number 16. Lt J.M. Sellars, 22 Sqdn RAF, is taken prisoner; 2nd Lt T.B. Collis is killed.

0845 German ace Paul Strähle, with Jasta 57, shoots down a Sopwith Camel for victory number 12.

0905 German ace Otto Fruhner, flying with Jasta 26, shoots down an SE.5a for victory number 17.

1055 Australian AFC pilot Ernest Edgar Davies, in SE.5a D6860, shoots down a Fokker D.VII for victory number 1.

1055 German ace Theordor Quant, with Jasta 36, shoots down a Sopwith Camel for victory number 9.

1105 Theordor Quant scores his second kill of the day, shooting down another Camel for number 10.

1345 English RAF ace pilot Frank Gibbons and Scottish ace observer James McDonald, in Bristol F.2b E2454, shoot down a Fokker D.VII. Victory number 8 for Gibbons; number 7 for McDonald.

1400 English RAF ace pilot Leslie King and ace observer Valentine Collins, in a Bristol F.2b, shoot down a Fokker D.VII. Victory number 9 for king; number 10 for Collins.

1400 English RAF pilot T.W. Martin and observer John Hall, in a Bristol F.2b, shoot down a Fokker D.VII. Victory number 5 for both.

1400 English RAF ace pilot Frederick Stanton and ace observer Clifford Tolman, in Bristol F.2b E2500, shoot down a Fokker D.VII. Victory number 7 for both.

Ship Losses:

Emilia G. (Italy) The sailing vessel was scuttled in the Mediterranean Sea off Cape Palos, Spain (37°30′N 0°35′W) by SM U-34 ( Kaiserliche Marine).
Giralda (United Kingdom) The cargo ship was torpedoed and damaged in the North Sea 5 nautical miles (9.3 km) north north west of Whitby, Yorkshire by SM UC-70 ( Kaiserliche Marine) with the loss of six of her crew. She was beached but was consequently declared a total loss.
Johanne (Denmark) The schooner was scuttled in the Mediterranean Sea off Carthagena, Spain (37°13′N 0°55′W) by SM U-34 ( Kaiserliche Marine). Her crew survived.
Mount Carmel (United Kingdom) The cargo ship struck a submerged wreck and sank. Her crew were rescued.
Pauline (Russia) The schooner was shelled and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean (47°50′N 9°55′W) by SM U-53 ( Kaiserliche Marine).
SM UC-70 (Kaiserliche Marine) The Type UC II submarine was depth charged and sunk in the North Sea (54°32′N 0°40′W) by HMS Ouse ( Royal Navy) with the loss of all 31 crew.

0700 German pilot Max Kämmerer, flying a Fokker D.VII, shoots down a DH.9 for victory number 2.

1110 German pilot Lt O. Weisshaar, with Jasta 65, destroys an American observation balloon for victory number 1. 1st Lt S.V. Clark and Cpl L.S. Balay, 9th Balloon Sqdn USBS, both parachute safely.

1112 O. Weisshaar scores his second kill of the day, another observation balloon, for number 2. 1st Lts Jonathan Lane and John S. Burrell, 5th US Balloon Sqdn USBS, both parachuted safely.

1230 German ace Wilhelm Kühne, with Jasta 18, destroys an American observation balloon for victory number 8. 1st Lt G.R. Nixon, 6th US Balloon Co USBS, parachutes safely.

1235 Wilhelm Kühne scores his second kill of the day, shooting down a Salmson 2A2 for victory number 9. 1st Lts Edward Orr and P.A. Henderson, 12th Aero Sqdn USAS, crash safely on their own side of the lines.

Austrian offensive in southern Albania checked.

Aviation

Officers of No. 207 Squadron RAF, at Ligescourt, 29 August 1918. In front of them, on a trolley, are the largest and smallest aerial bombs and behind them the long fuselage and two swivel gun mountings in the rear gunner's cockpit of a Handley-Page Bomber.

Mr. Ryan (U.S.A.) to be Assistant Secretary of War, with title and functions of Director of Air Service.

Visit of Kaiser Wilhelm to Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria at Nauheim.

Ship Losses:

Atxeri Mendi (Spain) The cargo ship was sunk in the Atlantic Ocean 4 nautical miles (7.4 km) south east of the Tuskar Rock, Ireland by SM UB-125 ( Kaiserliche Marine).
Gilbert (Sweden) The steam trawler struck a mine off Marstrand in Kattegat and sank with all hands, a crew of ten.
HMT Guide Me II (Royal Navy) The naval trawler collided with another vessel and sank in the Irish Sea off Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin.
HMT Puruni (Royal Navy) The naval trawler sank in the Caribbean Sea off Mayreau, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
SM UB-109 (Kaiserliche Marine) The Type UB III submarine struck a mine and sank in the Strait of Dover (51°03′N 1°44′E) with the loss of 28 of her 36 crew.
