Default Winter 42

Weather

a 4! A Moderate winter in Russia, but this time with Axis winter preparation of 4 gives a total winter effect level of 5

this means that germany may make 4 of a total of the following operations

a) ground attacks of any strength
b) air ops of up to 15 factors each
c) breakthroughs for armoured exploitation

Exploitation range is reduced to 1 hex.

But this is still massively less crippling than previous winters have been

For Russia the effect is less serious. Russia operates normally but armoured exploitation range is halved

Allied Winter 1942

Counter air over Madrid

US army air forces attack the GErman-Spanish AAF in Madrid

The air nat mod is even as the spanish have a lower mod than the germans and teh lowest mod takes priority

5 AAF vs 5 AAF

US rolls 6, a 2/2 result
Axis rolls 5, a 1/3 result

the axis AAF surprised and outfought retreat to the safety of Zaragosa

1 spanish, 1 german and 1 US aaf eliminated. The rest are inverted.

supply

Britain sends TF 1 to supply Gibraltar and TF2 to supply lisbon

TF1 is attacked by a Franco-Italian force of 4 AAF (2 of each) and 1 Italian NAS in the CAdiz hex, as it approaches Gibraltar

1 AAS peel off to engage 1 British NAS. The fight is even because the British -1 mod for NAS is offset by the +1 for CAP

The British roll 5, a 0/1 result. 1 French AAS shot down
The axis roll 9, a 1/1 result. 1 NAS shot down

4 AAS face the guns of the British TF

The TF is made up
CVL2 Furious and CVL2 Courageous, BB4 Nelson and Rodney, BB3 Valiant and Ramilies and DD3, for a total of 21 factors

Britain has an air defense research result, to give a level 4 defense. Britain rolls an almighty 11, a 2/2 result - an Italian and a French AAS are shot down, the remaining AAS and NAS are aborted.

The Convoy continues to Gibraltar where they are engaged once again by the 3 survivng AAS

Again a single NAS flies CAP, but this time the NAS in Gibraltar is able to assist

The BRitish in Gibraltar roll 3 - no effect
The Axis roll 8, 1 NAS shot down
The British CAP rolls 8, a 1/1 result
The axis roll 3, no effect

The remaining NAS faces the guns which roll a 6. a 1/2 result

It's all over, only 1 italian attack AAS survives, supply is completed. British lost 2 NAS

Attack on Cadiz

American 5o6 and 3 AAF attack Cadiz at 2:1. Allies roll a 6! Cadiz falls without loss to the allies - all Spanish ports are now belong us, declares Patton! Monty meanwhile captures La Corona through maneuver with his light armoured brigades

Battle of the Pacific

2 submarines attack Japanese convoys defended by 2 ASW

mod=+1 for MAGIC submarine card
subs roll an 11, mod 12, a 1/2 result
ASW rolls 6, mod 5, no effect

2 submarines get through and sink 2 +1 transports

Total losses to Japan, 4 transports lost, 2 damaged

attack on Cairns

2 American 3-2 mech inf attack the small force at Cairns at 3:1 and roll a 5. The overwhelmed Japanese survivors surrender and sit out the rest of the war in Australian camps, or until they are liberated..

attrition

communists roll a 4. no effect
natinalists roll a 5 for 21+ factors at -1, 2C lost
Darwin at -1, a 2 , no effect
Spain by British 11+ factors at -1 mod, roll a 1, no effect

Soviets attrition Germany in Russia at +2 (winter training difference) for 81+ factors and rolls a 2. A stinging 9 C/4H result

because this is winter in russia, russia may nominate the hexes from which germany must take losses

Soviets in the Caucasus attrition at 0 mod and roll 2 at 11+ and get a 1C result. in the med front the russians do not get to choose the hexes

10 attack AAF swoop in

3 AAS attack defending AAS at 0 mod.

RAF roll 6, a 1/2 result 1 NAS shot down
axis roll 4, a 1/1 result

8 AAS face the defenidng guns

only 6 factors: the PB2 Graf Spee and PB2 Scheer and a CA2, with air defense of 1, roll an 8, a 1/1 result

2 aas target each ship at -2 mod

Graf Spee, an 8! 1 hit - she's damaged!
Scheer, a 7! 1 hit - she's damaged!
CA2, a 6! 1 hit - she's damaged

The German flotilla hurries back to Port!
