Default Not getting credit for sunk ships.....

Ok on two separate patrols now, I have come across what seem to be "ghosts" of ships that were sunk earlier in the patrol. I will sink the "ghosts" and get no credit for the sinkings, yet I have wasted my torpedoes (and time) on these ghosts. This is highly annoying. Has this happened to anyone else? Any way to avoid this? Or fix this bug?

Mod loadout:

RFB
RFB patch
RSRD campaign
RSRD patch
Improved ship physics.

It's happened to me on several occasions, the most notorious being the Large Modern Tanker. If I sink one or more of those in a convoy or task force, then see one or two sailing alone without escort, I save the game before attacking - and if it does turn out to be "ghosts" I reload the save and pass them by. I've gotten in the habit of saving the career at first contact every time just because of that one bug. AFAIK there's never been a fix for it, most people claim they've never seen it.

I have the Direct2Drive version patched to 1.4 if that makes a difference.

I don't recall ever not getting credit for sinking a ship, but others have. I think this occurs more often in and around ports; the problem being that whenever you load a game, the port will have the ships that were scripted in, and if you sink them again, you do not get credit for sinking the "same" ship twice.

AFAIK, there is no fix for this issue.

Thanks though for the tips guys. I'm just annoyed that I have to do all that extra stuff because of a bug. Takes away from the immersion......

When I first got the game I played Pearl Harbor careers, but after getting tired of all the real time hours required to cross the Pacific I switched to Asiatic careers. I SUSPECT this particular bug is related to a specific convoy or task force, and the most likely explanation for why some people see it and others don't is that it involves Asiatic careers in the stock game.

One example of this is the "task force" with 7 destroyers, 3 cruisers, and 8 of those tiny 1800 ton troopships which wander all over like drunken ducks like they forgot what their destination was. Those are in BurmaJawa.mis and EastAsiaCampaign.mis, so someone playing a Pearl Harbor career is unlikely to see many of them, someone playing an Asiatic career will run into one or two every patrol. RSRDC or TMO possibly eliminates them completely, I don't know having never played either for long, but my best guess as to why most people don't get the phantoms is that they never play the specific campaign that has the bug.

"I think this occurs more often in and around ports; the problem being that whenever you load a game, the port will have the ships that were scripted in, and if you sink them again, you do not get credit for sinking the "same" ship twice."

Maybe. I HAVE seen instances where I sunk one or two of those large tankers anchored in port then saw large tankers underway days or weeks later hundreds of miles away in the open sea, approach fire sink same, no enemy destroyed message no credit for the sinking. However I have also seen the same with tankers attached to a task force - sink battleship, carrier, and tanker, a week later and hundreds of miles away get contact with two tankers sailing along unescorted, they invariably turn out to be phantom tankers from that same task force. Happens with other ships occasionally but the large modern tanker is the most common.

Again best prevention is save the game before EVERY attack, then you can just reload if it turns out to be a waste of ordinance.
