OK i gave up and did a complete reformat and clean install this time i went with Win7 32bit. I even removed my Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 hdmi audio card before the new install just to be sure it wasnt my problem. Now i am using the hd mobo audio. No change at all i still get 13fps on bridge when at the beginning of that historical mission i was talking about earlier. This card must be junk. Either that or everyone has bad fps on that mission and wont tell me. LOL

BTW i also tested my 8800GT after the GTX260 after this clean install and same too. 33fps with it.

I am now completely bald

I have been doing that all day with no better results. I even did a complete reformat and clean install of the os.

This.

Running 280GTX 80+fps (vertical sync on, if off then slightly more) at open sea and inside sub, dropping to low 30 in harbours depending on how many ships/object are around. If large convoys are around at open sea (20-30 ships) drops to 40-60 fps.

Can you do me a big favor and start the 2nd historical mission called "in spite of everything" and when it first starts your on the bridge with alot of ship movement and tell me your average fps for the first 3-4 minutes of that mission? I get 33 with my 8800gt and 13 with my gtx260.

Thanks

Goldwing i think ur problem is the power supply,the minimum you need is 550 watts for that card.Do you have the two PS molex plugged in the card ? I'm running the same video card and i get 40 to 60 fps with max settings and do your self a favor,go back to 64 bit

I know for a fact its not my ps. I have a high quality 650w that has plenty of power on the rail to spare. Yes i have both molex plugged in. I wish someone would check there fps on that 1 mission so i have something to compare it to. It would take all of 4 minutes to check. For all i know everyone has the same problem i do they just dont know it. I can go to another mission with not alot going on and i get alot higher fps which is why i am using that 1 mission as my bench test. I have narrowed my problem down to either a defect gtx260 or a game problem. I also tested another card and here are my findings on that 1 mission ONLY.
8800GT= 33 fps
GTX260= 13 fps
ATI 4850= 34 fps
all 3 were testing with clean OS and game installs so no driver issues both 32 and 64 bit on each.

thanks again

No problem

On the bridge, vsync on (shadows off):

Looking straight, about 30-35 fps
Looking to the right pretty much same
Looking behind, up to 42-3 fps
Looking to the left, mid 30 fps

It all depends on objects that card is rendering at the moment.

But having only 13 fps with 260 thats definately something strange going on

My specs:
(3 years old machine, GTX280 2 years)
Q6600
4GB RAM
Win vista 64 bit Ultimate
Looking forward for the full machine upgrade at the end of the year.

Thank you very much that is exactly the info i needed. That tells me my 8800GT was doing a good job from the get go. I assumed it was way to slow when i guess it wasnt. I also assumed that upgrading to a gtx260 would get me mid 40's. Still dont explain why the gtx260 is so bad though but at least i now know that trying to get 40-50fps on the bridge at the beginning of that mission is impossible (looking straight ahead anyway) no matter what your pc specs are.

Well what a waste of $300. Whats this game need to run perfect? Is there a way to see what my framerates are while playing? Thanks for any ideas anyone has before i try to return this card.
Remember a GTX 260 is nearly half a GTX295, I have 2 GTX 260 SLI which is almost as fast as a GTX295 (which is actually 2 x 260's). I get good frame rates with everything on high at 16x superssamp AA and 2560x1600 res. I can tell you for sure that the 8800's are not better than the 260's as I had 8800's before these cards. Sounds like the card you have might have an issue. Perhaps a bad memory module or something. It happens.

I agree that the gtx260 must be defective, what else could it be? It works fine for playing blurays etc but not this game. Can you tell me what your fps are with the start of that mission using your 2 cards please? I am not going to spend more then i already have just to play 1 game that i will get bored with in 2 months...just not going to happen...i already spent 180 on the card, another 80 on a better ps plus another 100 on 2 more gigs of memory just for this 1 game, oh and the cost of the game itself. I am not a "gamer" at at.

I think it would be possible if we had better machines. 3 years old rig can`t do wonders, so I`m glad with performance I can still squeeze out of it.

I get 28-45 in FRAPS. If you use nHancer or Nvidia CP make sure AA is OFF and AF is OFF. Otherwise your system is processing AA in game and 16x via vid CP -double. Games like SH5 will choke on this.
