Default Tom Cruise Top Gun 2 is coming

Top gun re-release Trailer
!

Top Gun 1986 Trailer

Quote:
He's feeling the need: Tom Cruise has confirmed he is on board for the forthcoming Top Gun sequel.
Plans for a follow-up to the 1986 blockbuster surfaced in October last year, but Cruise's involvement remained sketchy.
In an interview with MTV News in Dubai while prompting his latest flick, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Cruise revealed that he's in talks with Top Gun director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer about the sequel.
He wants to be a part of it - providing they "find a story that [they] all want to do".
"I hope we can figure this out to do it again," he said.
He continued: "I said to Tony, I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven't made a film since Days of Thunder.
"Tony and I and Jerry, we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas and I thought, wow, that would be what we could do now.

"We all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot Top Gun."
It had been rumoured that Top Gun 2 would focus on a new generation of fighter pilots - mentored by Cruise's character Maverick.
Asked what role he'd play in the sequel, Cruise, 49, said: "I don't know - we're working on it."
Bruckheimer also discussed the sequel last year, saying that "the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it".
It was reported back in September that the original Top Gun is being prepped for a 3D cinema re-release in 2012.
Conversion of the movie is being conducted by Legend3D, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Legend3D CEO Rob Hummel said: "As I understand it, they are planning to release it in 3D in early 2012, though I know they want to get Tony Scott's approval before they go forward.
"I think Top Gun lends itself to 3D due to the aerial flight. You can have fun with 3D by bringing things off the screen if they are not attached to the edge of the screen."
He added: "We think there is great potential for catalogue titles in 3D, but studios have had trouble justifying the expense."
What say you, readers? Is a Top Gun sequel a good idea?

Oh dear - terribly cheesy it was, but still: that old movie, the mood and attitude it transported, was part of my late youth for sure (to the disgust of my mentor, teacher and trainer, who hated it ). Just listen to the music and give your breath away...

But I am against a second part now. Just let it rest in peace. So often in film business it shows afterwards that it was no good idea to try revitalising that old dead body.

And please - finally skip that terrible 3D hysteria. Pleeeeaaaazzzzze. At best it means othing to me. At worst it dominates the way they style the film, and the effects then take dominance over story telling - to a much worse degree than you see it already in SFX-heavy movies like Star Wars 1-3.

I know, I read that too. So either he was lying then, or somebody is lying now - is my point

No Tom Cruise please. I can't get past him jumping on Oprah's couch and the scientology stuff.

I can't even watch topgun I.

So who would the aggressor be? Russians? Chinese? With these modern fighters (I'm going out on a limb and guessing they'll be in F-22s), combat boils down to who can push the launch button first.

Maybe it could be against Iran flying their F-14s.

F-22s in the navy? It'll be F-35s, unless someone doesn't do their homework...which is equally possible.
As for the aggressors...can't be China, too much movie money there, s'why Red Dawn 2's aggressors suddenly switched from Chinese to North Koreans, so it'll probably be either Norks or a renegade Russian general (TM), could be a renegade Middle Eastern dictator...but I doubt it...with Saddam gone they just aren't as recognisably parodiable (is that even a word?). So yeah, Norks or renegade Russkie, that's my betting.

Thank god. I was worried that we would never see a Top Gun 2. Scratch one off the bucket list.

Well there were proposals to navalize the F-14. One of the concept designs looks like this:

That's practically made for Top Gun

It'll never catch on.

That F-22 design is definitely Top Gun II material...although perhaps they should add some more realism to the film and have the leads as UAV pilots.

Just got a mental image of some guy in sweatpants slouching in a Lazyboy with a game controller in his hand and 'Highway to the Danger Zone' playing in the background.

"Maverick. Hey, Maverick."
"Whu?"
"Wha you want on the pizza".
"I don' care. Just no sausage.'
"Whatever."

When i was about 8 years old i loved that film.

It was part of what inspired me at a young age to become a pilot.

then i grew up, realized it was a cheese ball, and told Maverick and Iceman to get a room.

anyone seen the explanation video of why top gun is gay?
